I have a dumb question.. I'm figuring since you're the expert on sewing I'd
ask you..

I have several "skorts" (like a skirt with shorts built into them. One of
them Is fine at the waist, and lenght and everything, but too large at the
hips.. I don't have hips so sue me!

Anyway, my question: Is the fact that it's a skort making it a lot more
difficult to modify?

The sewing lady I asked about it gave me a long story about having to
rebuilt the whole skort and then some.. it's gonna cost me more than the
skort itself (which was fairly cheap actually..

Just mentioning, the "short part" is very "fitting.. so not too large in
itself it's just the skirt over it.

snif..

Depends how it's made, but you may have to deconstruct the whole thing
to get at both the shorts and the skirt parts to make it smaller at the
hip, and to get a proper fit that may also mean taking it apart at the
crotch seam. The hours of work unpicking that lot are where a great
deal of the money goes. If they take 4 hours to alter, on my time
that's £80!

It would probably be better value for your cash to have a pattern
drafted or altered to your shape and have a few pairs made up. This
would NOT be a cheap option (having a pattern drafted to your personal
measurements, especially an exclusive design, can cost £50 and more),
but would ensure that you got them to fit in fabric you like.
