Default Anheuser-Busch strikes back against low-carb diet books

The error of their ways -
Anheuser-Busch Cos. is worried that low-carb diet books wrongly
dissuade people from drinking beer. In a new brochure, the brewer
counters what it says are the three most common "errors."

Low-carb diet books say -
Beer is high in sugar, particularly maltose.
Beer has a high glycemic index, and foods with high glycemic indexes
are not appropriate for low-carb diets.
Drinking beer will give you a beer belly.

A-B says -
During fermentation, yeast consumes the maltose, converting it into
alcohol.
Beer contains too few carbs to be tested for glycemic index. For
example, a person would have to drink more than seven Bud Lights in 15
minutes to consume the 50 grams necessary to measure the resulting
blood sugar. (hahaha-not!)

Consuming too many calories - and a genetic predisposition - are to
blame for a large gut.

New food of the week: Ice water. Lots of it.
(The jalapeño peppers are very hot!)

From reading this you would think alcohol is calorie-free!

Alcolol has higer energy density than fat. It metabolises into acetaldehyde
then ketone bodies instead of glucose. So of course it is low GI, but high
in calories.

The same sort of consumer duping goes into advertising vegetable oil as
"cholesterol free". Vegetables don't contain cholerterol, but some contain
other types of fats.

alcohol is 7, fat is 9.

I think that the OP meant that alcohol had more energy per gram than
carbs.

Well, that much is true but he said fat which is 9 kcals per gram and
definitely more dense than alcohol.

Default No one's duping anybody. It's all about choice.

Bud Light is the #1-selling beer in the U.S.---not the #1-selling light
beer---the #1-selling beer, period. Go back to your sulphite-ridden wine.
