Even when I'm really hungry . . .
.. . . I still don't eat as much as I used to. Today I got up rather late,
had my usual coffee, took a shower, and headed out to run errands. Totally forgot to eat breakfast, didn't get home until after 5. I was going to be having dinner with my dad in the next 2 hours or so, so I didn't eat anything, even though I was getting quite hungry. Dinner was steak, fried shrimp (yes, with breading, but something we eat pretty infrequently), and salad. I only ate 4 of my allotted 9 shrimp (they were pretty huge) and only about a third of my steak. It was a big steak though, so a third of it was about the size of a deck of playing cards, which I've read is actually what a serving is. I ate my whole bowl of salad though, which had mixed greens, spinach, shredded cheese, tomatoes, and bellpepper. Still, 3 months ago I wouldn't have had any leftover steak or shrimp. -- -Michelle Levin (Luna) http://www.mindspring.com/~lunachick http://www.mindspring.com/~designbyluna |

Even with what you did have it still sounds like you were between 20 and 30 grams of carbs so don't worry too much about that. I am finding myself not eating as much as I used to at meals and even have some left on the plate that I toss in the trash or save for the next day depending on what it is. In my free-for-all-eating carb days that would never have happened. I even went as far as eating my kids leftovers from thier plates. Where I am at now is progress and it sounds like you are too. WTG Michelle!!! Oh and btw you look just *beautiful* in your pics. I love your choices in clothes. One day I hope to post very similiar photos to share with everyone here. http://community.webshots.com/user/miss_jaime |

One day I hope to post very similiar photos to share with everyone here. http://community.webshots.com/user/miss_jaime Thanks! I bet you will! You're already well on your way there. As for carb counts, I'm not really counting anymore, I just have foods that I eat as much as I want, foods that I eat in limited amounts, and foods that I don't eat at all. I eat as much meat, cheese, eggs, and "good" veggies like spinach, brocolli, and salad as I want, I limit fried foods like fried shrimp and fried chicken, I consider them treats, not regular items, (they're such a mess to make and use so much cooking oil anyway, so they'd be only occasional treats even if I weren't low-carbing) and I don't eat bread, pasta, corn, rice, sweets, pastries. There are some carby items like carrots and peppers that are sort of self-limiting, because I only have them in salads and stir-fries and they're a third or fourth tier item as far as relative amount goes. Everything is self-limiting now though, since I don't have the huge appetite I used to have. This is something to consider for those who are concerned with the expense of eating more meat and less cheap stuff like pasta: it may cost more in the beginning, but if you're like me, after a while you'll be eating so much less volume of food that you'll end up saving money. That steak last night, which would have been part of one meal before L-C, now will be part of breakfast (with eggs) and lunch (in a stir fry) today as well. -- -Michelle Levin (Luna) http://www.mindspring.com/~lunachick http://www.mindspring.com/~designbyluna |

I think I would have been a lot further then what I am now if I had not of let myself get sidetracked by other things (and people!) the last couple of years since January 2001. As for carb counts, I'm not really counting anymore, I just have foods that I eat as much as I want, foods that I eat in limited amounts, and foods that I don't eat at all. My eating is becoming like that as well now but it is still very much a struggle to stay away from certain things and I have to remember that food has no control over me...I have the control over the food. I eat as much meat, cheese, eggs, and "good" veggies like spinach, brocolli, and salad as I want, All *good* stuff!!! They are the bulk of what I eat including oils and water. :-D I limit fried foods like fried shrimp and fried chicken, I consider them treats, not regular items, (they're such a mess to make and use so much cooking oil anyway, so they'd be only occasional treats even if I weren't low-carbing) I cannot remember when I fried something and I don't eat bread, pasta, corn, rice, sweets, pastries. Same here. There are some carby items like carrots and peppers that are sort of self-limiting, because I only have them in salads and stir-fries and they're a third or fourth tier item as far as relative amount goes. A grated half of a carrot can go a long way in a pot of low carb soup or in a stir fry or salad and you still get the nutrition from it so it is not a bad thing IMO. Not if you have teenage boys like I do you won't. LOL!! I honestly wonder where they put it all. I sometimes wonder (as thinkers usually do) how low my own food bill would be if I were living on my own (no kids, no spouse, no pets) and I would bet I would spend less then $50 a week just on myself with all the inexpensive low carb foods I enjoy eating and never get bored of. That steak last night, which would have been part of one meal before L-C, now will be part of breakfast (with eggs) and lunch (in a stir fry) today as well. I find myself doing that with meats as well. I often use the leftovers from the night before in stir frys and salads. http://community.webshots.com/user/miss_jaime |
