I just joined this group, and this is actually the 1st group I have
joined. I have been a member of WW for about 6 years. I reached my goal
(the first time) about 3 years ago and became a lifetime member. In the
year following, I was able to get to about 5 pounds below my goal and
keep it there for about 9 months. Since then though I have been
struggling and have gradually started gaining some of it back. Last
summer I got back to my goal but can't seem to keep those last pounds
off. I was attending an at-work group but we recently stopped having
meetings because we did not have enough members. I am still tracking my
points (off and on) with Weight Watchers on line tracking. I am hoping
a support group will help me get back to where I want to be. Right now
I am 9 over my goal, but I actually want to be 5 under. I have 14
pounds to lose. I am going on a big vaction in 5 weeks although I do
not expect to get back to my ideal weight I would love to get down
loose between 5 - 9. My biggest thing is when I track, I lose and when
I don't, I seem to "get awayt" with it a while and then it catches up
to me.

Joyce, welcome!

Your loss/gain trackimg/not tracking pattern seems to be fairly typical,
and you already know what you should be doing and how to do it. Sounds
like you have what my leader called 'winner's complacency'! You won
by working hard and getting to your target weight, and now there's a
little hidden thing inside saying Been there, done that - now I want to
relax! The trick is to learn to counter it with: I *am* relaxed: and I
want to be relaxed and at goal!

This group is full of help and encouragement, good ideas, and support.
Stay with us, and someone who has been where you are will be along with
some specific advice in a minute. My trick is to have a diary I can
carry with me, noting what the food is as well as the points value.
That way I can balance things out: chocolate or cake with salads and
soups, meat and fish with carbs and vegetation! Tracking on-line is OK
for the over-view, but can you take the computer down the pub and point
the beer and peanuts, or on a girlie day of retail therapy and track the
latte and cake? I take the diary and a pen!

this is an excellent point, since I do not use print DH and I have developed
a system, he writes it down, then when we get home he records it for me,
then if I see some balancing needs doing I do it when we are home, this week
for example there seems to be a huge amount of zero point soup on plan, Lee

Hi Joyce,

I think you'll find lots of support in this group. Support will certainly
help you get back down to goal, but it's your own personal level of
determination that ultimately get you there and keep you there.

All of our journeys to lose weight are like rowing a boat across a lake.
You won't get there in a single straight line. Little things will get you a
bit off course, but if you look over your shoulder every once in a while to
see that you are heading the right direction, you will get there without
fully going completely off course.

As you row further away from shore, you may start to struggle a bit. You
may get tired of rowing. You may choose to stop rowing and yell for help
and let the current drift you back to shore! OR, you may decide to stop
rowing and drop an anchor for a few minutes to allow yourself to catch your
breath and assess the situation!!

As you sit there anchored in the middle of the lake, you look back at the
shore you just left and the you realize how far you've really come! You
look back at that shore and realize that it's pretty cloudy and stormy over
there! You ask your if you really want to go back there??

Then you turn around and look at the other side of the lake. You see that
it's bright and sunny and you realize that it's really not that much further
to get there. You know you have to get over there and you know that you're
not going to feel very good if you go back to where you started.

As you sit there anchored in the middle of the lake, you realize where you
really want to be. You've had a bit of a rest. You come to the realization
that you don't want to go back to where you started, so you pull up your
anchor and start rowing again with a renewed determination to get to the
other side!

When you reach the other side, you are happy with your accomplishment! You
feel proud that you rowed across the entire lake! You look way over to the
other side of the lake where you started. You see the storm clouds over the
shore. You remember how you felt when you were over there and realize that
you really didn't feel good. You say to yourself, "I'm not going back over
there!.....I like it much better on this side of the lake!".

Hang in there Joyce.......you've made this journey in the past. You can do
it again. You will do it again!

Eddie,

That was very inspirational and I passed it on to one of the ladies in my
meeting that happens to be a competitive rower. I thought of her when I
started reading it.

My biggest thing is when I track, I lose and when
I don't, I seem to "get awayt" with it a while and then it catches up
to me.
