During this project, I found a neat study in the Journal of Occupational
and Environmental Medicine. The authors report that the average person
with a BMI 27 pretty much blows 5.8 hours of productive work a week.
They found that it scales up proportionately.

Interesting. Any chance of a more precise citation?

Funny you should ask. I happened to have my files with me today, at
home, and, sure enough:
The Role of Health Risk Factors and Disease on Work Productivity
(Burton, et al 1999)

Cheers. I've had a quick scan, looks interesting. Will read it more
carefully this afternoon. There's some slightly weird stuff - apparently
people with diabetes are more likely to get STDs or something - but it
seems broadly sound.

At what speed and did you add any elevation?

4.8 mph, 3-4% incline.

I remember going up stairs with my brother-in-law, a construction
worker. He was completely winded and I wasn't.

But I was still fat.

Now I'm fit...and I prefer it.
I hate the idea of any study giving someone a reason to think it's
okay to stay fat.

Can someone remind me why these irrelevant posts must be crossposted to
several groups whose members don't give a damn about them?

It's because the ssf-a trolls are easily bored and dredge up
old silly posts (this "Bertha" one must have been posted at least
six times over the years) to crosspost them and hopefully relieve
their chronic boredom.

Robin, not excusing - just explaining

Seeing is believing!

Hey Yeah!! Next time I'm on a 600km hilly bike ride, she can come along
too - would be fun to watch.

I think she might turn purple and explode! I know I'm a lot fitter
than that lady, and *I* couldn't keep up with you! Need to up my
fitness levels and shift another 3 lbs myself. It's hard when your in
pain, I'm telling you!

She moves with less ease than I did before I shed my 70lbs of excess
weight, and I doubt she could keep up with me as I did 50 lengths of the
pool in an hour, followed by a quick trip up my loft ladder for some
fabric, and a 4 hour shopping trip round Bluewater.

I also wonder if she'd manage to shift out and set up 8 cast iron sewing
machines, or drop dead in the attempt... Wanders off to find
hidey-holes for another 3 machines...
