Default Unexpected (good) side effects of LC.

I've had terrible hangnail problems for years. After one month of LC, no
more problems!

I'm a male with very long hair and as I've entered my 30s my hair has
started to get drier and more brittle. After one month of LC my hair is
softer, shinier and has more body than ever before.

I don't know if I'd call this good, but my facial hair grows much faster
now. If I want to go out in the evening, I have to shave a second time.

Anyone else have any unexpected, good side effects while low-carbing?

I've always had very oily skin and was prone to breakouts. I did 2 courses
of Accutane treatment in 3 years and was only zit-free during the
treatments. The breakouts returned within 2 months after each.
After only 4 weeks on LC the breakouts are gone, and after 6 weeks my skin
is noticeably less oily. I finally get up in the morning and my hair isn't
pasted to my scalp and face with oily deposits.

I hadn't planned on posting any pics quite yet, but I'm so happy with what
this diet has done for my hair that I have to post just one.

Gorgeous hair man!

My hair too has improved, more shiny and healthy looking. Used to be a drab
looking mousy brown, no life to it. My fingernails too are better, not so
brittle and cracking. I love to use fingernail polish now, even the toenails
look great.

Don't be surprised if about 6 months into this WOE, your hair begins to
break off. Several posters have experienced this with their long hair.
There doesn't seem to be any explanation for this phenomena, but I believe
it may have to do with a change in the composition of the hair strand which
causes a weak section that is prone to break.

Hope this doesn't happen to you but don't be surprised if it does.

Just out of curiosity, were you doing a low-fat diet before? Or did you
switch from mainly junk fats (trans and hydrogenated industrial fat) to a
more balanced fat diet (unsaturated, polyunsaturated, omega-3...)? The
increased hair (and skin) health might "just" be the result of gettting
quality fats, along with essential fatty acids and fat soluble vitamins (A
and E mainly). Many people on low fat (or low quality fats) diets lack
these, and this can have negative consequences on stuff like hair and skin
(and a bunch of other things, like cholesterol and lipids levels).

Before LC, I had about the worst possible diet. I primarily ate a bag or two
of potato or tortilla chips (12 oz bags) a day, never eating vegetables. I
almost never had meals, just bags of chips. Once a week I'd go to a Chinese
pig-out buffet and pile high 3 or more plates of nothing but General Tso's
chicken, sweet and sour pork and crab rangoon. If I didn't run a one-man
home remodeling business, I'd weigh at least 400 lbs.
