I want to loose about 70 lbs. I've been trying to read up on carbs, fats,
and protiens. what is the best kind of diet to follow for this. I mean
should I eat low/less carbs, less fat, less protien. Any help at all would
be appreciated

Thanks,
Melissa

One of the first things to do is to honestly track what you are eating for a
few days. Be brutally honest...and run the calories. Seeing it on paper
will help you see where you are going wrong.

Then, cut back on what you are taking in, and find something to get moving.
Don't drop your intake below 10 times your current weight, (if you weigh 190
pounds, eat 1900 calories per day). Most find this will create a safe 1-2
pound loss per week.

If you post a sample of your eating here, you'll get lots of advice.
Personally, I like a modified low-carb WOE (way of eating). It helps
control my cravings for sweets, and I lose and maintain much easier.

Exercise. You need exercise to be healthy and you will
plateau without it.

Low carb is only a kind of reduced calorie plan, and people
get bored with it and then gain the weight back. This was
in an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

For good health, eat plenty of vegetables, fruit, whole grains,
and legumes (dried beans/peas/lentils) with enough animal
products for high quality protein, high absorption iron, and
vitamin b12. Limit the fat.

I found this to be helpful:
http://my.webmd.com/content/pages/11...000_0000_rl_03
It compares a lot of the plans that people are following these days.
Really, though, eat less, exercise more. Educate yourself on nutrition
and what you are eating. Track what you eat -- at least short term --
via some sort of food diary (on paper, on http://www.fitday.com/, in
your palm pilot, in a spreadsheet, whatever). This group is a good
resource.

I also like the following resources:

Welcome Melissa,

One of the first things I suggest to people is to track your normal
food/beverage intake that you normally eat (not trying to diet). Do
this for a few days, not just one day. And if you can do it for a
week, all the better. This gives you a good range.

When tracking, try to get the amounts of food you eat too. This
helsp for a more accurate assessments.

From there, we can evaluate what you eat, what you like to eat, and
where you might be making mistakes in your eating habits.

Also, height/weight/age will factor in with this too.

IF you want, post a couple days of your eating habits here, we can
help find some "problem areas"

Another question - Can you and do you exercise? Physical activity
will help you lose weight.

CHeck out this site:

If you eat what someone who weight 70lb less than you eats, you will turn
into someone who weighs 70lb less.

YMMV (your mileage may vary) but what has worked for me is to restrict
simple carbs like sugar, soda, white bread, pasta, rice, etc. Eat more
veggies and whole foods. Eat lean proteins, unsaturated fats, and avoid
fast food/fried food. Reducing simple carbs eliminated cravings for me.
You'll want to eat about 10 cal per lb of bodyweight. I generally eat 40%
carbs and 30%/30% protein and fat.

Exercise 3-5 times per week. Even if you just start with a 20 minute walk.
Be consistant and make it a habit. It takes 90 days of doing something
every day for it to become a habit - so make it stick!
