Default Lurker Delurks with Questions

I've read this group in the past, and it was very busy, but now doesn't
seem to get the traffic it used to. I used Atkins in the late 90s to lose
30 plus pounds. I went away from the diet, and all of the pounds are back
along with 10 more. I want to do it again. I'm hoping this can be a good
resource for me again.

How many here are still genuinely doing the low carb diet thing?

200/197/160 (Atkins since Monday. ;-)

About 155 were still genuine low carb dieters , at last count. :-)

Also, it is often accepted that the second and third "attempts" are
slower and less smooth than the first "attempt".

You have demonstrated that WOE stands for Way Of Eating - for life, not
a diet to be followed which will "FIX" your weight so you can go back to
eating "normally" and stay at a low weight.

How fast did the weight come back? How long did it take you to eat
"like normal" once you quit?

If you aren't prepared to change forever the way you eat, you can expect
to fail once again in the future.

1) Eat Till SATISFIED, Not STUFFED... Atkins repeated 9 times in the book
2) Exercise: It's Non-Negotiable..... Chapter 22 title, Atkins book
3) Don't Diet Without Supplemental Nutrients... Chapter 23 title, Atkins
book
4) A sensible eating plan, and follow it. (Atkins, Self Made or Other)

It came to pass that on 18 Nov 2006, Jbuch scribed thusly to all in
alt.support.diet.low-carb the following inspiration:

Nice!

Great. :-\

Makes sense.

Pretty slowly over the past 5 or so years. Not sure what you mean by
the second question.

expect to fail once again in the future.

Yes. Does anyone here make the transition to another diet type after
doing LC? Like say if I wanted to lose the weight with LC, but then
slowly introduce carbs as part of the diet and possibly do a weight
watchers type of food point approach? Just thinking out loud here.

The popular low carb diets ramp up the carbs as you
go along. For example, my favorite, the original
Protein Power (a book that's probably in your local
library), has 3 carb levels based on how overweight
one is. How to figure everything out (ideal weight
range, bodyfat percentage, waist/hip ratio, percent
overweight to determine carb level, protein requirement,
etc.) is in the book. In the last phase ones carb
level can be 130% of their protein requirement.
For example, let's say ones protein requirement is
100 grams, their carb level can be 130 grams. When
carbohydrate is allowed to exceed protein, we're
not talking low carb anymore. Any unbiased nutritionist
would likely call that moderate carb, moderate period,
or just plain good nutrition.

Strict low carb is a temporary intervention--it's
not forever on any of the popular/reasonable plans.
Give the original Protein Power a read and see if
it doesn't make sense and sound solid to you.

Thanks for the info--I believe I actually bought that book quite a while
ago, but never read it. Guess it is time to dig it out. Thx!

JW, you have read Atkins, haven't you? The whole thrust of getting to
Maintenance is to find the safe amount of carbs to keep you at the right
weight for the rest of your life...

Nicky.

It's coming back to me slowly. ;-) I probably should reread that as well.

Thanks!
