can someone 'splain this??
I was checking out some food item (I honestly forget what it was) but it
said something like: total carbs 6, then listed fiber @ 2 and sugar(s) @ 8!! I'm NOT talking "net carb" or anything like that...am I missing something?? Can you actually have sugar(s) listed with more carbs than the TOTAL carbs? Where do those "other" go? Chemistry, etc. is not my forte. I'm thinking a label screw-up is most likely the explanation. jumbles 271/261/175 or less (5'9") Jan 15is, 2004 |

The label you saw had already deducted the fiber from the total carb count.

That doesn't explain what she said she saw, total carb 6g, with sugars listed at 8g (and fiber 2). Misprint on the label. "jumbles" wrote in message hlink.net... Jamie,
No, not a misprint. Eight sugar carbs minus two fiber carbs is 6 grams of carbs. The company reported that 6 grams as the total carbs number using the European style of labeling where the "Total carbs" number is starch and sugar carbs minus the fiber. I've seen many European labels like that. -- Jenny - Low Carbing for 4 years. At goal for weight. Type 2 diabetes, hba1c 5.2. Cut the carbs to respond to my email address! You've got your total and your sugar backwards, and Euro labels don't include fiber in the total in the first place. It's not subtracted from starch and sugar -- fiber never negates usable carbs, regardless of which labelling standard. But even if mis-subtracting fiber on a Euro label, you would get 6g total minus 2g fiber equals 4g carb, yet the label said 8g sugar. You can't come up with 6g total while labelling 8g sugar. It's a misprinted label. -- jamie ) "There's a seeker born every minute." |
