Default Recipe Request

sauté the meat and add taco seasoning (or make your own and add). Then,
chop up some onions and tomatoes and cheese. Make a bowl of salad greens
and pour the taco mixture over it. Top with the onions, tomatoes and cheese.

It's like having a taco without the tortilla.

I looked at some fajita and taco seasonings today in the supermaker and they
were really really high in carbs....like 40g per 100g or something. I
bought some jars of cheese sauces which were around 3 to 5g per 100g of
sauce.

I don't know what you looked at, but my taco seasoning is a powder made by
Tone's. The label reads:
total carbohydrates: 4 gm per 7 gm serving
dietary fiber: 1 gm per 7 gm serving.

So, that means 3 gm of carbs for a tsp or 9 gm per tablespoon. That doesn't
seem so high to me, especially as those are the only carbs in the meal.
Perhaps you were looking at prepared sauces. Look for the powders instead.

Where I think you're getting off track is that you wouldn't be eating 80
grams of the powder. I estimate I ate one tablespoons--maybe. The recipe
calls for using 4 cups of powder per two pounds of ground round, but I never
put in that much. I use around 1 cup, total. A little chili powder goes a
long way.... then, you mix it with water, too, as you pour it over the beef
in the skillet.

Chris, how many grams were in the packet? You need to figure out the
required percentage of the 100g figure, and then divide again by how many
servings will be in the chilli. I reckon dry spices at around the values Pat
quoted you.

Nicky.

Well, keep looking. I have 4 different spicy seasonings in front of
me now and they all say 0 gram per 1/4 tsp. I assume that to be
about .9 gram per 1/4 tsp so that adds up to a max of 4 grams for
spices.

Add in some Kraft CarbWell Dressing at 0 gram per 2 tbsp (again
probably close to .9 gram) and you have some good eating.
