Default Keeping Your Butt to the Grindstone-Update

Four years ago after years of struggle, I reached the beginning of my
journey, having made the descent from 219 lbs. to the low 130's. Then
the real work began.

What a blessing to discover that ASD's favorite fitness guru, Mistress
Krista, lived only a few blocks a way. She visited me twice to oversee
and correct my pilates and weight lifting program and I've alternated
these three routines times weekly when I am being good!

However, it is a bit difficult when my weight creeps up by a mere three
pounds to get back any further than a set point in the low 140's but I
manged not to go beyond that limit.

That can be attributed to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet which although
not a low carb diet seems to be self limiting as the permitted carbs
don't seem to set up carb cravings. For a short time I followed the two
pound diet but did not get the balanced nutrition I require for Celiac
Disease although it was quite simplistic. I haven't had to use a food
scale as much as I did then.

I think the stability can be linked to consistency, patience and
resisting temptaion to do even temporary crash or one sided diets.

I felt a little more energetic when my weight tempprarily dropped to
the mid one hundred and thirties, but the body and metabolism refuse to
go along with this and I stabilized in the low 140's.

The Specific Carbohydrate Diet is intended for healing a damaged gut
and correcting digestive malabsorption. It was not intended as a weight
loss diet but is ideal for maintenance.

If anything, the exercise has bulked me up although this is not
noticable when clothed;although I complained about it a lot at first,
the increased strength and fitness for my age, 73, remains the main
compensation.

Here are my photos. I don't know how to JPEG and upload the most recent
but I look pretty much the same as in the link below. My point is not
that this is all about me but that despite age and a challenging
illness, the weight can be taken off and kept off. There may be
legitomate exceptions but really few excuses unless you count gluttony.

Congratulations. You do not look 73 at all. Can you tell us more about
this SCD.

The diet is actually 50 years old and is used for gastric illness.
People with damaged guts have digestive malabsorption. Undigested
gluten and disaccharide starches are not absorbed directly into the
bloodstream and populate rapidly causing an overgrowth of intestinal
bacteria. The diet based on readily available foods, animal protein,
fermented or aged dairy, nuts, honey, fruit and vegetables is balanced
and delicious. It contains monsaccharide carbohydrates which don't
require digestion as they pass directly into the bloodstream. The diet
is proving effective for autism and schizophrenia as well as Ulcerative
Colitis, Crohns Disease Irritable Bowel Disease and Celiac Disease.

I discovered it from a member of ASD Low Carb, named Bridget and will
never forget her. it really has changed my life!
