I have had my body fat measured and I am 20% body fat. About 30lbs of
me is fat. Also, I hate hate hate meat, especially red meat. I am not
vegetarian, but meat really is not my favorite thing in the world.
What would you all recommend to replace eating meat? Tofu? Beans?

Thanks!

L

Tofu is a good way to get protein into your diet. It's very flexible. I
use it for smoothies, stir fries, soup, and even chocolate pudding. I also
eat it marinated and grilled. Another good source for protein is fat free
cottage cheese. It's very flexible in that it can be mixed with all kinds
of things (fruits, vegetables, nuts, etc) depending on what kind of taste
you're looking for.

Also, soy milk has more protein than regular milk and it does come flavored
for those who haven't developed a taste for it. You could also try adding
whey or soy powder to your diet for a protein boost. Some people sprinkle
it on cereal. I mix it with plain yogurt or make a shake with soy milk.

The optimum body fat percentage for women for health is roughly between
22% and 26%. How old are you? Teenagers, fitness models and
professional athletes go lower - but they won the genetic lotto or they
wouldn't be fitness models or professional athletes.

I don't hate you for wanting to be skinny, I just wonder if you hate
yourself.

That's already a very good value for a woman.

Assuming that value is accurate, you're right between the athlete and
fitness range. According to the Tanita chart, you're actually borderline
underfat. Women are meant to carry a reasonnable amount of visible body fat
on their bodies, it is necessary for it to work properly, and it is often
located in areas where it doesn't cause an health risk. Why do you want to
lose that weight exactly?
- Specific an unesthetic fat spot while the rest of you is slim? That's
where liposuction might be an option.
- Not being tight enough? That's where working on the muscles will probably
lead to better results.
- Still feeling fat?

Also, I hate hate hate meat, especially red meat. I am not
vegetarian, but meat really is not my favorite thing in the world.

What about fish? It doesn't really taste like red meat or even regular land
animal meat... You can consider both fat fish (stronger in taste, denser)
and regular lean fish (more subtle taste). What about seafood?

What would you all recommend to replace eating meat? Tofu? Beans?

Tofu is certainly an option. If you have no problem with gluten, you can
also try seitan.
However, if you go vegan, you have to be carefull about protein quality.
Your body needs some essential amino-acids from its proteins; it's able to
synthetize most of them except from a core set. A protein is complete when
it has all the essential amino-acids. Proteins from animal sources are
always complete, for obvious reasons. This includes proteins found in dairy
and eggs. Proteins from vegetal sources are rarely complete, so you always
need to associate two vegetal sources to get a complete source; for proper
assimilation, you *need* to have them in the same meal, having one at lunch
and one at dinner is not optimal. A classical association is cereal +
legume. For instance, eating rice and lentil is a classical in vegan Indian
cuisine. That's not a major problem is you add some meat to the mix (for
instance, a daily meat service and some cheese), but if you're going more
vegan, you have to do carefull planning.

You seem to be at a good size to me. have you tried to isolate
the areas of your body where the %20 body fat reside? Running is
great for overall workout but your excercises probably should
focus on the areas of your body that has the extra weight.
