WW without guilt or poison notices
I ditched guilt about 33 years ago, when I was about sixteen and skinny.
I found it easier to apologize if I did something wrong than carry the guilt. I don't feel guilty about eating food, especially not about chocolate and ice cream. They are faaaaaar to nice to feel guilty about! Enjoy and move on, I say. I don't do 'bad' foods: no food is bad, though some 'foods' are pretty poor stuff (like guar gum and artificial colours and flavours, and a few artificial sweetners, mechanically extracted 'bollockburgers' [thank you Jamie Oliver!], and whole wheat pasta!) and I avoid them. I avoid others because they have certain unfortunate effects! Excessive fats can be disastrous, but only because of medical conditions: I can no longer digest large amounts of fat after gall bladder disease, and I prefer the taste of things without it. I always did cut every scrap off meat because it feels revolting to me when I eat it. As do fried eggs! And okra! I do miss red wine: loved it once, but like large amounts of coffee, it affects my innards adversely, so I just avoid it. You go ahead and enjoy them: there's enough good stuff here for me, so I don't feel deprived or jealous. I eat wholemeal bread, porridge, and brown rice because I prefer them to the white stuff and breakfast cereals: the only ones of those I really like are Wheetabix and shredded Wheat (and occasionally Shreddies - but I prefer to eat them dry as a snack than with milk for breakfast). I don't need to wean myself off coke or diet drinks: to me they are all revolting and fizzy and bleargh, and I never did drink them much. I'd much rather have a bottle of chilled spring water on a hot day, and a cup of tea at any time. Since I had to cut down drastically on the chocolate when I was ill, I don't crave that any more, so even though the son and heir to the family debts has some in the house, I don't go pinching his! I don't do food treats when I lose or have a celebration: a Fat Quarter of quilting fabric or a new reel of stripy thread will do me fine, and you can bring flowers any time! I love flowers! For special feast days I do lower fat and sugar versions of things and eat smaller portions than I used to. If I go over my points allowance, so what? I may put a pound or two on, but I can get it off again. I know how. Nice zero point vegetable soups work wonders! I love vegetables, and any excuse for more is a good one! I do the exercise that I enjoy: I have swum 3 times this week (a total of 130+ lengths since Thursday), and I walk. I shall walk quite a bit this week, come sun, storm, or rain of herring, as DH is working away from home and I shall have to collect the lad from school on foot. I have lost 62.5 lbs by watching what I snack on and switching from one food I loved (cookies and cake) to another (raw veggies), watching portions and getting them right (I weigh potatoes, rice, and meat portions) and filling up on vegetables rather than bread and cheese. I avoid large chunks of cheddar, Wensleydale, Stilton, and the like because of what they do to tie my intestines in knots! I cook with low fat cheddar, and other less fatty cheeses, and eat a little real cheese occasionally, when the mood strikes. I want it far less than I used to! I occasionally get a yearning for something rich and delicious: I indulge,I treat myself, and a very little goes a long way. Where once it was a bar of chocolate every day, now I have one or two squares a month. Where once I'd sit down to a mug of tea and half a packet of chocolate digestives, now I'll have one Go Ahead Bake, or a banana. The nice thing with WW is that it has made this unbelievably easy! Things are counted and portions are spelled out, so it's easy to get it right. The food (almost all home cooked in my case) is delicious, leaves me feeling satisfied without feeling bogged down, and there are plenty of recipes for special occasions. I plan meals for a week or 10 days in advance, and then I don't bother about it. No need to obsess or worry - it's reduced the 'what's for dinner' stress to zero! The only time I stress about food is when we are traveling: I hate to get stuck somewhere that the only food available is deep fried and mass produced burgers - none of which I liked BEFORE WW! If I'm going to bust my points quota or have a day off, I want NICE food! We'll stop at the pub rather than MacDeadstuff! Give me a prawn filled jacket spud and a mountain of salad rather than a plate of burger and chips. Good quality burgers and chips are fine for those who like them and don't get tied in knots by the fat, but I prefer the spud and prawns! 62.5 lbs gone: can't be bad! -- Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des Trolls Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.katedicey.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |

"Kate Dicey" wrote in message ... This is how I feel. Taste is a sense. I like wearing silky stuff, listening to good music, looking at great art, and the smell of walking through the woods. Why then can't I treat my sense of taste to something wonderful once in a while like a high quality chocolate or a small amount of ice cream? It works for me. If it didn't and when it didn't, I didn't do it. That's been the problem I've had not only with the troll's blathering, but with anyone who insists that there are "bad" or "harmful" foods. At the times in my life I was not attempting to lose weight, I could overeat pretty much anything. My weight didn't come from doughnuts and candy. It came from eating too much of everything. It wasn't uncommon for me to down an entire chicken in one sitting at times, or two large porterhouse steaks. If at the time I had to give up everything that I would overeat, then there would have been no foods left for me to eat - and I actually did that once for the 10 months I did HMR. It's not a long-term solution. I might not personally enjoy cake or doughnuts, but if someone does and it helps them stay on plan to find a way to fit it into their routine, more power to them. I also related very well to the rest of your post being in the same position. My body doesn't tolerate fat, so like everything else in life it needs to be moderated. OTOH I know some people that do well on a high fat diet which would simply kill me. I've also had to give up alcohol for medical reasons and I was able to quit smoking pretty easily after a 20 year habit. People who have never been more than 10 lbs overweight in their lives simply don't understand that obesity is a chronic disease that needs to be treated forever. It doesn't have to be unpleasant at all which is what the WW plan has proven. We're all individuals with different needs and there is nothing that works for everyone. The other good thing about WW is that we all do it our own way. I treat my weight management the same way I treat my money management. I don't eat everything I want every time I want just like I don't buy myself whatever I want just because I can. I save up for special occasions and splurge on occasion, knowing I'll be back on track the next day. I also work too hard to live the life of a pauper so I make sure I have a few nice things that I enjoy and don't have a need to be deprived. It goes for both money and for food. -- the volleyballchick |

It's so much easier with food though.. I hate money, I'm no good with money,
and the one thing that I miss about not being in Quebec anymore is that there everything isn't about money... here it seems that money is what you are, who you are and what you are worth.. I don't understand that kind of thing. I've been raise to believe that one's defined by one's actions, not one's possessions... *sigh* Will~ "Stormmee" wrote in message ... same process as food, write it down, follow it, be accountable, save/don't overspend, same concept, Lee Kate Dicey wrote in message ... but you have written the solution, when you budget, save, get out of debt,
you then have the money to do the things that make you a better person, you have enough for your family and are thereby able to give/do more for others, Lee Willow Herself wrote in message om... Sorry Lee, honestly I have no interest whatsoever, in money or in religion
;op I really hate it but can manage money when I have to (I lived on my own for a while and dragged myself out of my ex's debts to financial health). I would rather leave it to my husband though and he doesn't mind so.. I know in general what's going on. Enough to take things in hand if something was to happen to him... but I wouldn't want to start planning and organizing money.. of such stuff nightmares are made.. I'm the dreamer... he's the realist. "It'd be nice if we did this much" and he goes "Well, actually we can afford that much" and we go from there.. As for religion.. lets just say my beliefs are far from mainstream here in the States... ;o) Will~ "Stormmee" wrote in message ... true, look at the book financial peace, religiously based but absolutely excellent, is the WW of money, Lee Willow Herself wrote in message . com... mine are not all that mainstream, but the advice he gives is good, here at
our house, I say can we/I have/do and DH says yes no or later, I either have to be totally in control or not think about it, so this works for us, we have so few bills and he has the investments set up so that if he kicks off the worst that will happen is I will be ****ed I have to do it, Lee Willow Herself wrote in message om...
