Default Progress - weight vs. inches - you must measure

I was updating my numbers on my excel spreadsheet (weight and inches lost)
and looked back at the trend. I've known all along that I'm glad to have
taken before measurements, because often when my weight loss has stalled, my
inches certainly have not and it's reassurance that I'm on the right path.
Actually, it's become noticeably more fun to lose inches than to lose
pounds, because when I'm losing inches, that's when more people seem to
notice the difference on me. When I'm losing pounds, they don't seem to
notice until later... when I'm losing inches. So odd.

My first month on LC (Jan 04) I lost 22 lbs. 1 inch my hips, bust, and
waist.
2nd month Feb04, I lost 10 lbs. 2 inches from waist, 1 inch from hips.
3rd month Mar04... I lost only 2 lbs. Another 2 inches from my waist and 1
from my hips.
4th month Apr04 I lost 4 lbs. 2 inches from my waist, 1 from my hips
5th month May04 I lost 6 lbs.
6th month Jun04 I lost 3 lbs. 1 inch from my waist, 1/2 inch from my hips.

Looking at it monthly like that, I'm pleased with my progress. It can be
hard getting through the months were you don't lose as much, though...
losing only 2 lbs in one entire month (especially since I still had to lose
58 lbs in March) seems really slow. The thing that made the month go by
easier was watching the inches come off.
I generally weigh myself once a week.
If I lose no weight, then I also measure myself. So I don't measure every
week, I only measure when I haven't lost weight (I started that after
feeling like I was wasting my time measuring on weeks I'd lost weight only
to find out that I hadn't lost inches).

So far in July I've lost 1 lb. This brings my total weight loss to 48 lbs.
I'm really hoping that by the end of July I'll be at 50 lbs lost. I have
already passed my halfway point as far as weight, but I'm sure the 2nd half
will take longer to come off, especially considering that most of my weight
loss happened in the very first month.

Total inches lost: Current
bust: 1 inch 48
waist: 8 inches 34
hips: 6 inches 44

Before I gained weight, I remember my measurements were 36, 26, 34 (170
lbs).
According to that, I still need to lose 12 inches from my bustline (which
stubbornly is not shrinking), 8 inches from my waist (which has generally
been going down 2 inches every month), and 10 inches from my hips.
So if I'm more than halfway to my goal as far as weight is concerned, but
I'm not halfway as far as measurements go... perhaps I'm not halfway there
afterall. Maybe I have many months to suffer through where I will only lose
inches and not weight.

Well, thanks for reading my long rant.

I'll never understand why weight is more important to people than inches.
I'm not saying that weight isn't important, but others can clearly see when
you've lost inches because your face and body look different. No one but
you will know what the scale says, though.
I started at 133 pounds on February 29, 2004. On July 9th I weighed 111
pounds. So I've only lost 22 pounds in 4 1/2 months. But I've gone from a
size 8 to a size 2. EVERYONE has noticed my drop in inches, but they're
surprised to hear it's not that much in actual weight.
And I've also noticed that the weeks where the scale doesn't move are the
ones where the tape measure does, and vice versa.
