Oh no, so that means your skiing days are now numbered? Please stay out of the
mountains ... we don't need or want to lose you in an avalanche.

I'd like to see those 43 temps though, would thaw out some of that ice in the
driveway and on the stairs. Today we had some light flurries, just enough to
cover the ice ... light fluffy dry stuff. So of course, walking across the
driveway I slid into the truck and whacked my elbow good. Sonny boy came home,
stepped out of his car and took a spill in the driveway. I told him to watch the
ice ... after I found him lying on the ground. G

Are those negative temps wind chill temps, or actual temps? I can't begin to

you have to realize I am a barefoot type of person ... but I put a pair on this

Those were the temps without calculating windchill. And there was a
breeze so I don't know how cold that made it appear.

Recent discussion here at home ... when did the newscasters start speaking in
*wind-chill* temp mode? I don't seem to ever remember these figures from when I
was growing up, the temp was the temp, period. You knew it was cold, didn't need
to know much more than that. I tend to still think in just straight temperature
mode, don't figure those windchills.

Well, Windchill is a real factor in frostbite - the cooling effect of
wind, hastens the loss of moisture which tends to cool more
(evaporative cooling) and so scientists devised a method of figuring
out what it was "worth" with breezes added to real cold temps. Altho,
I don't recall the details but either last year or the year before,
they did revise the method somewhat but I don't recall if it lowered
or raised the values calculated.

Thanks for the explanation! So this new measurement would really be helpful for
those that are exposed to the elements for longer periods of time ... whether
hiking, skiing or everyday work that requires special precautions for the weather
conditions. I probably should pay more attention to it then, considering hub is
outside much of the time. G

I've seen your weigh in results posted and highly doubt that you are eating too
much. g

I am not controlling it as well as I should even if one could say I'm
not eating too much. Just eating and eating.

Hmmmm, seems that is where I have been. Overall, I don't think I have eaten a lot
... quantity wise. But I feel like I have been continuousy *picking*.

yes, that describes it well.

I've been better this week, at least am picking on fruit instead of chocolate. g

I was doing okay, till yesterday. Too many meringues and dried mango.
It is the snacking

LOL - I think you are having female hormonal eating swings. G I still can't
find the dried mango at Trader Joe's (boohoo for me), but munching was better
under control yesterday. What the heck causes these picking phases?

Ah, my female side is showing - in my maternal stomach!!!! (G)

Boredom more than likely. I don't think I'm depressed but maybe I
miss that great weekend of skiing............ in frigid temps (G)

Depression is definitely not the issue for me ... can't eat when depressed or
upset. Last night proved that fact. Had some problems that caused me to hit a
low that I haven't felt in quite some time (TOM didn't help at all). Had to fix
dinner for the fam, ate a little bit but nowhere near normal and didn't have a
thing for the rest of the night.

I can believe you may have missed the skiing - but will never buy that you missed
those temps!

I got in a quick lunch hour bike ride. It is not 48F but cloudy and
very humid.

Nice warning there, mom! Hope you both are okay.

I try to avoid avalanches - I do have a beacon but generally that
really serves to find the BODY!

we had a good thaw for a few days then cold temps came back, and for some reason I
have been so danged tired. I get daughter off to school and crawl back to the
couch. Excuses for not hitting the treadmill ... again. sigh

Ya like my warning, huh? grin Sonny boy just mumbled something about how
wonderful it is to be coming home to a bunch of smartasses. At least the ice is
totally gone from the steps and driveway now ... should aid in preventing further
tumbles. But with the thaw over the week-end, came a little fender bender. Hub
and I were out, managed to get ourselves rear ended ... INSIDE a car wash. LOL!
Ya just gotta wonder about the woman who drives through instead of letting her car
be pulled along ... as the sign tells you ... then comes out and asks *what
happened* (after they had to aid her in getting her car back onto the rack pulley
system she was supposed to be on). Once again, sense of humor helps a lot in
these situations.

No one hurt and no major damage done - but it was really funny. I think both hub

that bumpers were made for bumping. g Is the east coast getting hit hard again?
I really haven't paid much attention to any news reports lately.

You know as these discussions progress, with the good days, bad days,
on and off days, it reminds me of OTHER _DIETS_ I've tried. Rather
than a wol, the fluctuations are the old attempts at dieting but not
treating it as a permanent enough change in eating??? Maybe not.
Just a fleeting thought.

The east coast is FROZEN. Well, the old bumpers were made for
bumping but the newer ones are made to made repair shops rich. I
guess they are improving them again but most are intended for ONE bump
and then replace. That is probably a good/bad thing - good in that
they do really absorb a quick sharp shock or BUMP but then like
styrofoam, they are dented and will not absorb a second shot and need
replacement.

The east coast is FROZEN.

Just had to pop in here and say that yesterday we had the distinction of
being the "warmest place in the nation" at 77 degrees. It was very nice,
breezy and partly cloudy.

couch. Excuses for not hitting the treadmill ... again. sigh

I think it the post holiday letdown and WINTER in general. You'll get
back on TRACK as opposed to the woman below.

I know, I know - not quite sure where my mind or resolve has been the past few
days. I did ok for a day or two, then wandered off track. Today was another one
of those good days though - I now have to try and make the good ones outnumber the
bad ones.

You do have a very good point there, and sure hope that this is not the mode I was
putting myself into. I don't think so, but ya never know. G Thinking back over
the past few weeks since the holidays, I do know where I have veered off ... items
others brought into the house thinking they were being *oh so very nice to mama*.
And of course, I didn't want to hurt their tender feelings. G Today hub called
and asked what kind of girl scout cookies I wanted ... I told him I didn't want
any - so he is purchasing one box only for my darling skinny daughter who has lost
2 pounds (I found them). At least this is an item I CAN resist - don't much care
for any of them. The killer is when he walks in the door with the Wendy's
frostys.

Well, it sounds as if no one was hurt in these various bumps. Glad
you are partially thawed as opposed to those are the far east coast.

No one hurt and no major damage done - but it was really funny. I think both hub
and I were laughing before we even exited the truck. My dad taught me early on
that bumpers were made for bumping. g Is the east coast getting hit hard again?
I really haven't paid much attention to any news reports lately.

Oh boy do I know about those expensive bumpers these days. In sonny boys earliest
days of driving, he was a terror in the driveway - in reverse. One time out he
backed into my daughters car, hard enough to push it into her husbands truck.
Another time he did manage to pull far enough around the vehicles in our drive to
get himself out (our drive and our neighbors abut each other ... so it's like a
double width drive and we both have learned to stagger our parking so we don't
have to constantly juggle vehicles). What he forgot was that the neighbors side
slopes just enough that when their is ice, you slide. He slid into my SUV, then
pulled forward to straighten himself out ... didn't realize he was attached to my
bumper - totally tore the thing. Neither vehicle has been repaired, too expensive
and my mindset is *they are bumpers, it is only a vehicle*. One of these days
.....

And we are now in the frozen mode also. Friday nite we were hit with an ice storm
of sorts, over an inch of ice on the vehicles, roads were horrendous. Temps are
supposed to dip again today. I'm staying in.

It's been miserable here too (NJ). Thursday we had a snow storm. No ice but
it turned bitterly cold. It was 8 degrees with MINUS 15-25 wind chill
factors. Today we are having snow-rain-snow storm. I'm sure we'll see some
ice too. Nice day to stay inside but I'd rather be doing something more
constructive than watching tv or playing on the internet but I'm not in the
mood to clean.
