Default WAL-MART SUPER CENTERS 50% OFF LOW CARB STUFF

I made out like a bandit at the Wal Mart Supercenter's grocery.
Grabbed loads of the Atkins pancake, corn bread, and brownies for like
$2.20 each. They had lots of Carbolite suff for half off. Check your
local.............

Pancakes, corn bread, and brownies are now low carb.

Someone on my forum claimed to have gained 30 lbs in 3 months eating
800-1000 calories/day.

In the FFID universe, 800 cal can magically cause weight gain.

I know I shouldn't go there, but I will because this is perhaps one of
my biggest dislikes: Our "friend" WalMart.

This is a company that forces manufacturers to manufacture overseas by
inviting companies to their headquarters and telling them that if they
don't match the price of a Chinese-made item, they will drop them from
their store. Companies, then, are forced to close up US operations,
just so WalMart can try to corner the market. They are getting so
large, that manufacurers cannot say NO, even if they want to.

I just read an article in USA Today that stated for every Walmart
Supercenter that is opened, 5 local businesses close in the first
year. Local people, local flavor, local contributions. Early last
year Levi Strauss (jeans) agreed to let WalMart carry thier silver tab
jeans. By the end of the year, Walmart had forced the company to
match the price of a no-name house brand they were carrying. Levi
closed it's three remaining US plants this last fall trying to
accomodate WM, and last year Levi had the largest sales year ever, but
profits were DOWN 20%. They have become such a giant, that companies
cannot afford to tick them off. Good for WM, not forget everyone
else, except a short-sighted cusotmer that can't see beyond the
short-term.

I'm sorry, but there are just so many things wrong with the
WalMartization of communities. I know the whole
free-market-survival-of-the-fittest arguement. As blue and white
collar jobs flee offshore, ask yourself, "Where will my children or
grandchildren work?"

A blowout 50% off low carb stuff? It makes me wonder what competition
they are trying to kill now? Selling at below market price in a new
product line is common practice for WM until they get people into the
habit of going there automatically. All things to all people.

Sorry for the somewhat OT venting. Do a Google on Walmart and see
what comes up. If you can get past all thier sites, you'll discover
things that will make you seriously think before going there.

My appologies to those who disagree, I mean no offense.

Regards,

Coff

I'm not sure if it's still upo but www.walmartsucks.com had alot of similar
anti-Walmart information and consumer research. Might be worth checking out.

Good deal. I don't buy those things, but I'll be sure to check out
what they have and maybe try a few things. I like Wal-Mart. No union.

"Perhaps you splurged on a handcrafted carpet, without knowing it was
made by a seven-year-old from India, where children are chained to
looms for 12 hours a day. Maybe you just bought a soccer ball for your
son or daughter, without realizing your gift was produced by
five-year-old hands inside a dark and silent factory in Pakistan. Even
your more mundane purchases -- a leather bag, a shirt, a pair of
jeans, or produce from the local grocery store could be the product of
child labor.

Around the world today, some 250 million boys and girls between the
ages of five and 14 are exploited in hazardous work conditions,
according to the International Labour Organization. Most of these
children live in the developing world, but even in industrialized
countries such as the United States, hundreds of thousands of underage
boys and girls are at work in sweatshops, farm fields, brothels and on
the street."

Yeah, unions are really evil.
