weight loss 1/2 lb.a week not spam or ad just story.
This is a little story of how I have begun to lose weight without magic
or products or anything special, just being very, very careful. At 6 ft. and 38 yrs old I weighed 150 pounds and was called toothpick I was so thin. Within a short time of turning 38 I started to gain weight. By the time I was 56 I weighted about 250 pounds. I felt tired, had significant reduced flexibility. For example I could not sit down on the floor with my legs crossed or tucked as people do when they are sitting on the floor in a circle. But I can do that now. Even getting down on the floor I felt like a giraffe trying to sit on the floor. It was very difficult and awkward. I had tried to adjust my diet and eat better but it resulted in little or no positive effect. Then everything changed 6 months ago. I had wanted to accomplish something I had never accomplished before. I had wanted to learn to play basketball something every other kid had learned and I had not. Coincidentally, a couple of relatively new guys at work had indicated in a casual conversation they usually played outdoor basketball every summer. I mentioned my interest about learning to play and I had in early March unstable weather and two coaches. As word got around the office pretty soon we had 4 to 6 players all of whom had played on school or college teams and were good. All of whom were coaching me whether playing on my team on in opposition. While I had not played in my lifetime some of these guys, mostly 30s, had not played in 10 or more years and were enjoying their return to a sport they had loved. It was soon discovered that while I had learned some basics of the basketball game, I was out of breath within minutes and lacked stamina and strength in most areas. It was almost impossible for me to bend over and pick up the ball from the court floor. One of the guys suggested I attend the gym with him to learn a light weight, high repetition program with easy cardio to get this old guy (me) moving a little faster with fewer problems. Using dumb-bells, I do 10 exercise with 15 reps and 4 sets which takes 45 minutes. I do some stretching after, of course. I do the routine only twice a week. I do once a week walking up and down stairs to the beach which number 400 in one direction initially 3 reps and now up to 5 reps for cardio. Once every two weeks I do a walk up an mountain near the city which takes me 1 1/2 hours and the average young person 45 minutes. For food I eat bran flakes with only skimmed milk and, of course, no sugar. I eat only roast chicken with or without bread and sometimes cranberry sauce. I eat vegetables fresh and frozen along with fresh fruit. I only drink water with an occasion McDonalds Hot Chocolate. I occasionally have a piece of pie and a pop when in the company of friends but that is it. I don't limit myself to quantity but try not to over eat and am generally a little hungry as opposed to being full and tired. For several months I didn't weigh myself as the thought of weight loss really wasn't in the picture. It was all about learning to play basketball. My gym buddy suggested one day that I get on the scale. To my surprise I had lost 17 pounds. In total I have lost 30 pounds. I am no longer exhausted at basketball, but like most I am tired after the game. I have never felt better for at least 10 years and perhaps longer. There is lots I can't do like touch my toes and I have way more stiffness than I would like. But I have no pain and am making gains gradually. For two weeks I was attending a film festival and played no basketball and only did exercises on weekends while for the most part keeping my diet. I have managed to lose about a half pound of weight a week. Others say that is a good amount. That is what my body is doing. I don't know technically why it is that much consistently but that is the way it seems to work for me. I was not happy that I had this very gradual weight gain over those many years. It was next to impossible to lose weight up to this point. Let there be no mistake about it, it is very difficult to lose even a half pound a week. I effectively have to be very careful and the various forms of exercises are very tiring. I hope to return to a weight of 175 but most everyone says they would be happy if I weighted 200 pounds. Because I keep to this food diet for the most part, I don't restrict myself to other meals when in the company of others so I lead a normal life as far as food is concerned. I am not fanatical about what and when I eat but 75 to 85 percent of my weekly food intake is as indicated above. Probably what keeps me on the program as such of good food and exercise is that I felt a lot better to my surprise after losing 20 pounds and am feeling better each and every day. I try to practice an hour of basketball each day and continue to play basketball one day a week in addition to my program above. |
