Default LURKER SEEKING ADVICE!

I confess I have been lurking here for over 20 months, and have only
just found the courage to post! This despite such brilliant
information and advice from this forum. I don't think I would have
got this far without all of you wonderful people.

I started this woe back in February 01, and have lost to date 3 stone
9lbs. I now weigh 11st 2lbs. My first "big" goal is 10st 7lbs, which
is about 9lbs away. Ultimately I would like to get to 10st.

There have been ups and downs and quite a few bumps in the road, but
overall this woe suits me perfectly. More importantly it suits my
body. Having been overweight for all of my adult life, it has been
wonderful to find something that actually works in the longer term.

I have two problems; firstly that I am now struggling with the "diet
mentality", even though a lot of the time this woe does not feel like
a diet. I think partly this is down to the fact that I have been
struggling to lose weight for over 20 years. Does anyone else
struggle with this, and if so I would love to hear from you as to how
I can improve my attitude. I know I will have to stay relatively
low-carb for the rest of my life and that isn't a problem. I am sure
there was someone talking about this a couple of weeks ago and I would
love to hear from someone else in the same position.

Secondly I know I am way off my ideal weight for my height of 5ft 4.5
inches, probably by about 1.5 stone, but I still have so much spare
flab on my tummy and I am beginning to panic that it will never go,
even when I get to target weight. Everything else seems to be shaping
up reasonably well, but this is a problem area for me. I exercise
(swimming) for about 3 to 4 hours a week and walk for 2 hours a week.

Can any of you seasoned low-carbers offer me any sage advice or give
me some inspiration?

Thanking you all for the inspiration you have given me to date. It
has been enough to drive me on, and I am thrilled to bits to have got
this far.

The *flabby skin thing* is difficult to deal with, especially if you are a
bit on the older side.. our skin tends to lose elasticity as we age.. darn
it anyway... just when you start losing weight and feeling and looking so
much better, that comes up and bites you right in the rear, lol. some of it
will eventually shrink back, but especially if you were extremely overweight
you will never get rid of all of it. for some people it is so extreme, they
have it removed via surgery. It just depends on *why* you want to lose the
weight. If you want to knock out the guys on the beach wearing a bikini,
well.. I don't know what to do about that. Otherwise, be glad you are
healthier and still look great with your clothes on, lol. You can firm up
muscles with exercises, but it wo'nt help the loose skin all that much.
(sorry.. I don't know *stones*.. just *pounds*.. a stone I *think is 20
pounds?)

Hi Suzi, welcome to the group! Of course, you've been her all along :-)
Sorry, can't offer any advice about loose skin, but you've done a GREAT job!
