Default dangers of fast weight loss?

I've heard about the dangers of fast weight loss... mostly that chances are
high that you will gain the weight back, or that the reason you're losing so
fast is from unhealthy/incomplete eating habits.

I lost a lot of weight during induction. Then I didn't lose anything for 2
or 3 weeks. I have upped my carb intake. I eat more nuts, wayyy more
veggies, and more fruits than I did during induction. I even had a cup of
wild rice one day and still lost 5 lbs that week. I'm at about 40 carbs a
day now (although I do not count exactly every item and write it all down, I
just sort of keep track in my head each day).

Right now, I am very very happy with my weight loss progress. I feel
wonderful, I need smaller clothes, everybody can tell I've lost weight, etc.
But in the back of my head... I was only expecting to lose between 1 and 3
pounds each week. I'm wondering if something is wrong, because I've been
losing more than that. I exercise moderately.

I really don't want to sound like I'm complaining - I love this way of
eating. I don't feel constantly hungry anymore. Food tastes fantastic.
I don't crave all the foods I use to love/be addicted to. I'm just a little
worried about my progress not being typical.

A sample of a daily menu:
2 cups of salad greens, cucumber, tomato, celery, onion, w/ grilled chicken
on top and about 2T of ranch dressing.

1 ounce of nuts

Some homemade Egg Foo Young (eggs, 1 T soysauce, a cup of cabbage, a cup of
chinese-stir-fry-veggies, some mushrooms, saute'd) - delicious!

some strawberries or blueberries or maybe an apple

6 oz of grilled salmon, with steamed veggies & melted butter & cheese

Oh, I forgot to add to my daily menu:
I also drink at least 128 ounces of water each day, and take nutritional
supplements.

If you're happy with your weight loss then there's no problem.

It is too soon to really know what your progress will be. But as long as
you're not suffering, what is the problem? Everyone is different. And your
weight loss will likely slow, sooner or later.

Don't worry, the more weight you have to lose the faster you will
lose. As you get down to the last 20% or so it will be more
difficult. If you feel good, are taking your vitamins and it's
working, just enjoy it!

You're not losing too fast. Most of the weight lost in induction is water
anyway, and you're eating enough to avoid any metabolic problems. The
dangers from "losing too fast" are from ultra-low calorie diets, where
muscle mass is lost. Would I be correct in assuming that you're male?
Males generally lose faster than females because males have more muscle
mass, which requires more calories to maintain than fat.

This is true for the low fat, high carb diets that force some people
(not all) to calorie restrict to the point of starvation. Starvation
is not a sustainable form of weight loss in the long run unless
external circumstances coerce the individual.

I lost a lot of weight during induction. Then I didn't lose anything for 2

If you are losing around 1% of your weight a week and are not starving
then you have nothing to worry about. Your body is unloading the
excess fat stores that would never have accumulated if the modern diet
wasn't so distorted by sugar and simple starches.

Right now, I am very very happy with my weight loss progress. I feel
wonderful, I need smaller clothes, everybody can tell I've lost weight, etc.
But in the back of my head... I was only expecting to lose between 1 and 3

You will lose more than 1% of body weight per week initially because
of the reduction of glycogen reserves and the associated water weight
(there are 4 lb of water stored for every pound of glycogen).

I just finished week 6 and I am still loosing more than 1% per week
and feeling fine except for muscle cramps whe I don't take the right
vitamins. The more fat to loose the more weekly weight loss can be.
This is generally true of all diets. Atkin's ultra low carb regime is
simply more effective at targetting fat than low-calorie/low-fat diets
so at 330 lbs I can still lose 3 a week. A 50lb overweight man can
lose more than 16 lbs in the initial two weeks. That includes the
water weight, but later weeks don't.

Actually I just plugged in a 1%/week formula into the excel
spreadsheet I am tracking everything in and it is a good estimate of
my weightloss for the first six weekss. It is about 2 lbs behind what
I am currently at. As I get further down and 1% shrinks it will be
curious if it beteer predict the natural slowdown. I'd think the
formula would work better as 1% of depleted tissues. Weight of bones
and brains and certain organs probably doesn't change too much during
dramatic wieght loss.
