Balancing Resistance and Cardio?
I been struggling with this for the longest time now..
If I do great at weight lifting, I have absolutely no wind for cardio.. If I have a good cardio.. I can't lift a thing.. How do you balance the two? I thought it was just because I had gotten out of shape.. but no matter how much I work out,I can't seem to build both.. -- Will~ “I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it.” Charles R. My goal was to do cardio everyday.. but obviously it's not working out.. I can do long walks on weights day... but not high intensity cardio... I just can't build it up.. Will~ |

My goal was to do cardio everyday.. but obviously it's not working out.. I can do long walks on weights day... but not high intensity cardio... I just can't build it up.. Why do you want to do cardio every day? It's totally unnecessary, and it's also perfectly okay to take a day off per week from everything and just relax. In fact, I'd say it's crucial. Are you trying to do high intensity cardio every day? If so, why? I think that unless you're training to compete, it's not only not necessary but often not helpful and potentially harmful. Long/slow or long-medium/moderate cardio three or four days a week should be plenty, especially if you're lifting weights regularly. Occasional high intensity (google "HIIT") is fine to keep things mixed up, but every day? No. Your body is obviously trying to tell you that it's not happy, so why try to force it? So why not do the long walks everyday (read Dr Oz recommends 30 min everyday rain or shine) and do the HIIT on alternate days to weights? At least youre out and about and not flaked out on the couch! Walking is so underrated yet so good for you! joanne |
