Default Woohoo! Cracker Barrel restaurant goes low carb!

A year or so ago I was complaining in a post that Cracker Barrel Restaurant
wouldn't tell me if their chicken salad contained sugar, or what the carb
count was in any of their meals. (They're extremely secretive about recipes
and ingredients). I even boycotted them for a while.

Well, I'm away from home for the holiday weekend, and because there is a
Cracker Barrel adjacent to the hotel where I'm staying we went there for
dinner this evening. I was very surprised and delighted to find that they
now have an entire page of their menu dedicated to new low-carb meals and
side dishes! Not only this, but the carb counts for each item are printed
on the menu. It's a great selection, and still has the Cracker Barrel
traditional "home cooking" flavors and quality.

I had a grilled roast beef that came with three sides. To go with it I
selected the tossed salad with peppercorn dressing (they claim the dressing
has just 1g of carbs), turnip greens (cooked with ham), and the special
veggie of the evening: boiled cabbage cooked with bacon. The portions were
generous as usual for CB, and it was a delicious, filling meal.

I'm happy about this because I truly always have loved their food, and am
glad that I can now order off the menu without omissions or substitutions.
I chatted with the manager after we ate and let him know how pleased we
were. He said that they just got the new menues with the low carb items
about two weeks ago, and that they are now chain-wide standard selections.

Yes!

Cracker Barrel hasn't landed in Hawaii yet but, from the sounds of it,
I hope it does! I did get to a Chili's restaurant a week ago and was
happy to see their LC menu complete with carbs/fiber/net carbs!

Slowly, but surely...g

once!!!!

Awesome news! We're going out with friends next weekend and they asked if I
could eat at CB. I had intended to find "something" on the menu I could eat.
Nice to know I will be able to order more than "something".

All they did was take a couple side dishes and add a couple slizes of tomato
and they call it a low carb menu. Check the prices on the sides, it MAY
COST LESS to order a side of eggs and a side of bacon, sausage or ham. Who
needs the stupid tomato they added and that 7 carb slice of bread for high
price they charge? This really isn't a big deal!

Gunn

The low carb menus aren't necessary- just make sure I can have my choices
and I will be happy. This last trip, I almost begged to leave "Atkins" out
of the conversation. I just want choices that are low in starch and sugar
free. You chose the restaurant, I'll find the choices. Any good restaurant
should be able to honor this with today's pressure to offer healthy choices.
I don't need to be singled out.

one more thought: do you eat a menu item because someone said it was low
carb or it was on a low carb menu? how stupid. Know your foods and widen
your choices.

First of all, I'm not stupid - what I AM is new to low-carb and I'm still
learning. CB isn't really known for "healthy" food so I was happy to hear they
had a menu with carb counts (since I don't know them off the top of my head
yet). Thankfully I've met a lot of kind people on this ng, who were taught not
to call others names.

word.

i don't even follow atkins, but yeah - i feel exactly the same way.
just pick a restaurant, and i'll find something i can eat that works for
me. i hate the whole concept of needing "special" food.

Actually, we're going for dinner, hopefully I'll find something other than
bacon and eggs (perhaps I read the OP wrong).
