Sara,
Thank you for making me feel not-so-bad about my consumption last night. It was definitely rich food (esp. the pork cheeks), but very good. I forgot to mention I had table bread with their harissa spread, which was unbelievable! Look at the pictures that accompany this review for a feel of the richness of the food... I am obsessed with fresh bakery bread and I consume it like crazy. The La Brea Bakery Pain Rustique loaf was about 2lbs in weight. Oof. My food this morning is as follows: 2 Okinawan sweet potatoes (beautiful dark purple interior!) 1.5 cup of Nature's Path "Optimum Recovery" cereal (this is a new, rather tasty cereal!) ~3oz of pain rustique with various spreads: grilled veggie tapenade, homemade strawberry jam, and red pepper tapenade (yes, very strange mix of sweet and savory) ~1/2 cup of cranberry trail mix 1/2 baby banana in the afternoon: 2 bites of tofu, 150 calories worth of potato chips i didn't have much throughout the rest of the day because i was extremely full from the morning, and i also think i ate way too much than i really needed to, considering i was still full from the night of feeding before. i am at 140lbs now, +5lbs from a few months ago. i really need to start actively monitoring my consumption. but i can't resist food...i feel like i have to eat all of it or it will be taken away from me, even though i know it won't...i feel as though my "carnal" instincts are getting the better of me. Ugh. Her Subj. wrote: woops, here's that review: http://dailygluttony.blogspot.com/20...atter-aoc.html Sounds great! And $40 a person isn't that much for a great meal. I love the La Brea bread cookbook, btw. Martha who loves Acme Bread here is SF, on par with La Brea |

Oh, the meal was very good! I don't like going to restaurants with
menus that I can replicate myself at home. I don't mind spending a few bucks on food that would take me a whole day to prepare. Have you luck with the La Brea cookbook? My starter died! And yes, I am familiar with Acme in SF...it is a bread lover's institution! The La Brea book is my second favorite baking book (second to Baking
With Julia). I have hundreds of cookbooks, collecting is a passion of mine. Sorry to hear about your starter. I've often thought about getting one started, but I'm afraid it would create alien life forms in the back of my fridge. Martha Her Subj. wrote: Oh, the meal was very good! And for all those plates, that's not bad at all. I went to a company dinner that was spectacular this week and fortunately, I didn't have to pay for it. It was around $40 per entree. But, the lamb chops were the best I've ever had. If I could afford it, I'd go there again. (Forbes Island: touristy, but amazingly good.) Dining in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area isn't cheap. "Cheap" restaurants would be most anything under $20 per person including everything. "Mid-range" would be around $20-50 and "Expensive" is above. Martha |

Nothing on the menu even sounds remotely like food. I hope you took
your anti-trendy-neo-popculture-Britney-Spears-ate-here-pill before you left home. Whatever happened to pulled pork BBQ and baked beans anyway? sheesh. chula who prefers real food |
