Go for a walk on the treadmill. And then try working out a different
area of your body. (arms, shoulders, etc or lowerbody - legs).

ugh ... change of plans.
I thought I could work thru it.
I have started vomiting

Ok, now I'd consider going to the ER... Even if you didn't do anything
serious to yourself, they can give you GOOD DRUGS. And what if you have
appendicitis?

Default ugh Pain :(

I know this is a diet NG but I do see a lot of talk of exercising here so

I
thought I would post a question.
Yesterday during my workout I used a nautilus machine for abs. I didn't

use an
enormous amount of weight and I don't think I pushed very hard. At the

end of
my workout I was comfortable and not in pain.
However, today is a different story. My abs are killing me. Not just a

little
pain from over stretching but I NEED NARCOTICS kind of pain. It's even a
little difficult to stand up straight, or to sit for long. The pain is
starting to radiate around my rib cage and into my back.
I have even considered going to the ER. But feel a little silly doing

that,
especially if they just send me home w/ Tylenol.
What could I have done wrong w/ my work out? and what can I do to

alleviate
the pain? I already have a bitchen' cold so this doesn't help at all

Sounds like DOMS. Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. Just in a bad
case. You worked your abs in a way you haven't in a long, long time,
I'm sure. And because of that, you are sore. Tylenol, Ibuprofen
should help. Pain may get more severe the 2nd day then begin to
subside.

In my personal experience I'll find that if I exrecise on day 1, day 2
starts out fine, but as the day goes on the pain begins. Day 3 is
usually the hardest and then day 4 & 5 it begins to subside. For
me, a good case of doms can last a week.

I've found a few things really help the symptoms a great deal.

1. Proper stretching and warmup BEFORE and AFTER exercise.
2. Light cardio work day 2 and 3.
3. Continued stretching each day.

What they all said, nothing too serious, just seriously painful. One thing
you might try doing at this stage is put ice on your abs. You have started
an inflammatory process which is part of the reason for the pain. One of
the things that helps is ice, it reduces the circulation temporarily, cools
the nerves so they don't fire as quickly or as often, and helps flush out
the inflammation exudate, which will all help kill some of the pain. I
would recommend to clients who see me 10-20 minute sessions with the ice.
Might be worth a shot.

OK - now *that* much pain to cause vomiting sounds a bit serious.

Are you sure you didn't pull someting? Or are you sure you aren't
sick too, and the doms is compounded by body aches?

I have a cold, so that doesn't help I'm sure.
I'll be ok, I think the pain just got the best of me and made me sick.

Either way - the vomiting will cause even more strain on the abs and
you may still find them sore from that too.

Exactly.

Get some rest. Try the ice thing.

I certainly hope you didn't do anything serious to yourself.

Thanks, I'm still in pain, but I did get some rest.

They were removed a few years ago ... so it can't be.
