How much protein is too much?
It seems like I eat alot of grams of protein. My average is probably
150grams a day. I weigh 275#. My goal weight is 150#. Is there a point where you can eat too much protein? I went to Jenny the Bean's website and came up with some astronomical number using her formula. It came to like 235 grams a day. I don't think I could get that much in but is that a good max number? Kathryn The RDA (not that anybody around here pay much attention to THAT, LOL!) for protein is .8 grams for every kilogram (2.2 pounds) of body weight. That would put your current protein requirements at 100 grams. As an example, you can achieve that with three cans of water-packed tuna while consuming only about 450 calories and no carbs. Be creative with it, enjoy your meals, exercise, and eat your veggies! |

In ,
Jim Bard coded for transmition to space: The RDA (not that anybody around here pay much attention to THAT, LOL!) for protein is .8 grams for every kilogram (2.2 pounds) of body weight. I've seen the formula posted here as from .5 to .9 x LBM per Protien Power. -- revek The whole of life is just like watching a film. Only it's as though you always get in ten minutes after the big picture has started, and no-one will tell you the plot, so you have to work it out all yourself from the clues. - Terry Pratchett, Moving Pictures. |

That would put your current protein requirements at 100 grams. I weighed 125 and someone told me to eat 60 grams protein per day. As an example, you can achieve that with three cans of water-packed tuna while consuming only about 450 calories and no carbs. For less bulk, a person could use whey protein isolate powder or some such. I make hot chocolate with it and a whole 20 g scoop of powder sort of disappears in one cup of water and cream. It acts sort of like the cheap hot chocolate powder that comes in envelopes. Skinny |

How much protein is too much?
I am 5"4" and I am 34 years old Sunday.
I usually eat like 3 eggs for breakfast (the cheese in the omelet comes to 8g), a small salad with 3-4 oz of chicken or turkey breast for a snack, 8oz of steak or salmon at lunch, a couple of chicken thighs for supper with a small salad. If I get desperate for sweets, I usually have a tablespoon full of REAL brand peanut butter which is 5g protein. Kathryn "Roger Zoul" wrote in message ... How much protein is too much?
I understand the RDA numbers and also, like you, realize we don't put too
much in them. What I wonder is, what is the point that I eat too much protein and it turns into glucose (I think that is what it does) and is bad? Kathryn "Jim Bard" wrote in message ... If you're LCing, your body will always convert at least some of the protein to glucose. You really can't avoid this without eating more carbs. |

How much protein is too much?
Excess protein will usually not cause spikes in blood sugar for a Type 2
diabetic though it can for a Type 1, but it will cause a spike in INSULIN. Because a major principle behind the effectiveness of the low carb diet is to control insulin, which is the fat-depositing hormone, eating too much protein can lead to serious stalls. -- Jenny - Low Carbing for 4 years.
