Tummy tucks again (was Today is Love Your Body Day!!)
"Beeswing" wrote in message I have a lot of thinking to do about this. From what I know about myself, I *doubt* I'll get a tummy tuck, but I think it might be worth spending the $100 consultation fee for an appointment with the highly recommended plastic surgeon I was referred to -- just to find out what my options are. I think this is a great idea. I went for the consultation a little over a year ago, and decided to work on getting the weight down first and see how I felt at that point. Well, since then, I've lost about 30 lbs, and I'm just focusing on lowering bodyfat % now instead of weight. My body is very close to what I'd hoped for, but my stomach didn't improve all that much. In fact, I think I only lost an inch or two in the waist with all of that. So, surgery to me is still an option, but not a high priority. It's best to be informed, so you know what you're looking at - get the consultation, and please, post back what you find out. det |

If I'd been a burn victim and was dealing with burn scars on my abdomen, no one would blink twice if I said I was considering surgery to minimize them. For some reason, the perception is different when the cause is weight gain and pregnancy. rosie (who has had her "eyes done" and will do it again, if needed!) |

The point I wanted to make is that it's not always about seeking a perfect waist. It can be a lot deeper than that. beeswing beeswing, i shouldn't matter if the tummy tuck is for vanity either! vanity isn't "less deep!" |

I've lost my 70 pounds, done the exercise thing, and so on. I'm not at all overweight. But my stomach looks awful. It's covered with many deep stretch marks. I could have written this. (Except I still have 20 pounds to go to have lost all 70, and I had a c-section with the first kid and two subsequent kids after that, with the third being the largest.) My stomach is utterly ruined. It looks like I've got a brain sitting plastered to my skin: loops and folds and creases everywhere. I'm caught between a desparate desire to FIX this and an awareness that the answer has to come from acceptance. There just isn't ever going to be a time when the right place to put $6,000 is into making my belly look better naked. Meanwhile, I'm working out, lowering my fat and doing what I can for my skin, including lots of water and EFAs. Lately I've begun smearing my belly and thighs (which are rapidly approaching the baggy look of my tummy) with alpha-hydroxy ointment. It's supposed to stimulate the skin in some way - it's typically used for facial wrinkles (and it works there) and I've found it makes my skin a bit more supple and dewy. Maybe I can fool it into thinking it's under-30 skin instead of almost-40 skin. Still too soon to crow about amazing miraculous results, but I'll let you know if they develop! Does anyone else have any nostrums I might try? Wendy |

Good analogy, and I support you in whatever decision you make.
Cat If I'd been a burn victim and was dealing with burn scars on my abdomen, no one would blink twice if I said I was considering surgery to minimize them. For some reason, the perception is different when the cause is weight gain and pregnancy. |

Hey, Rosie,
I've been wondering about the eye surgery. Is is expensive? What's the recovery like? Cat "rosie read and post" wrote in message ...
