Default Atkins & Bacon

Hi everyone!

I just got off the scale and I'm actually 25 pounds lighter then I use to be
and I havent even started low carbing yet...I start Monday! I'm even more
siked now then I was before, because I'm starting out lower then I thought I
was HURRAY!

Anyways about bacon. Bacon is acceptable on the foods list for induction
but it states to make sure you don't buy bacon that is CURED IN SUGAR. I'm
a guy here so help me out! I have looked at all the bacon in the stores and
I'm more confused now then I was before I looked. If anyone here eats a few
slices of bacon at breakfast time doing the induction phase, can you please
tell me the EXACT brand of bacon you buy? In other words, if it's Oscar
Myer bacon, say that! I am totally stuck on this.

Thanks so much!

Easy solution: don't eat any kind of bacon (canadian bacon is okay - imo).
Just eat regular foods...chicken, beef, ham, etc.

I just went and looked in my freezer. I have a brand called Fields - No
Sugar Added, and a package of regular Oscar Meyer. Most of the time, I use
"Bacon Bits" by Hormel, real bacon, already cooked and shredded into bits,
mostly because I am not fond of frying bacon and I don't eat it at every
meal. I get that kind at the Sam's warehouse store here in town, in a big
bag for about $6. I don't know if the Hormel and Oscar Meyer have sugar in
them, but you can find the ones with No Sugar Added, or ask the employee
behind the meat counter at the grocery.

Good luck to you,

DebH

It's a good idea to stay away from bacon because it has so much salt and
nitrites. Too much salt is bad. Nirites are bad. Whether your following
LC or not. Roger is suggesting to eat natural meats, meats with no
processing. Most everyone here is trying to give helpful advice. You're
not a bother, geeze!

There are plenty of other things on the list that you COULD have for
breakfast. Free your mind...

I buy sugar free bacon at Krogers. It's the Krogers brand and clearly states
"no sugar added" at the top of the package. If you can't find it or don't
have a Krogers, just ask at the meat department. They're usually willing to
help with questions like that.

I do eat bacon. It's on the induction list and that's what I go by. For
breakfast I cook up two strips of bacon. When they're cooked, blot with a
paper towel then roll around a 1/2 inch cube of cheese while the bacon's
still hot. Yum. I even cook up a few extra for a snack later.

(Non-bacon people don't bother jumping on me. It doesn't matter to me
whether you are happy I eat bacon or not. I feel good, I'm losing weight --
that's far more important to me than your opinions.)

Good luck on the diet!!

Hi,
Yes, bacon is on the list. I think what gets everyone up in arms is the
constant idea that people that LC are welcome to sit and eat pound after
pound of bacon along with that dozen eggs !! That's not LC by any stretch.
And the experienced folks on here are quick to tell you about things that
can cause potential problems such as the sodium and nitrates. But, you
seem like a smart guy, and you know that 1-2 slices every once in awhile
shouldn't be a major problem.
Good Luck,
Susan S.

Look at the nutrition label, if it has no carbs it is okay. Also look at
the list of ingredients to see if sugar is listed.
