You must be an idiot if you can't figure out how to lose weight.

I have to say that this bothers me a little bit too. I see this on here a
lot, especially from JC. It is excellent advice and gets to the heart of
it. The problem is, however, that sometimes things are a little bit more
complicated. There are many things that could cause this problem. Did

the
OP add any foods in the second week that weren't in the first week? Is

the
OP eating any controlled carb products? Dairy besides cheese? Caffeine?
Tomatos? Any of these things could cause a stall. Some people have
reactions to certain foods that inhibit weight loss and it is necessary to
pinpoint those foods and cut them out, not just cut down on everything.

And
exercise doesn't help with food reactions, generally.

While this advice is the basis behind any weight loss, it doesn't take

into
account a person's specific problems/issues and, to me at least, belittles
the OP. It comes across as if you're implying that the OP is stupid or
something, and I don't think that's necessary. Just my own opinion, of
course.

Try eating a little less and take up some form of exercise.

See, this bothers me to have to read things like this.
Not to say it isn't good advice (I think that everyone should eat a

little
less and exercise), however in the book, Atkins speaks directly about

how
you should eat all you want, blah blah blah.

Perhaps the person having trouble loosing is eating hidden carbs, or not
counting properly. Perhaps he or she is on some sort of anti-depressant

salt
based medicine, who knows.

Sorry JC, that was not a crack at you at all, but sometimes (just

sometimes)
it seems like the Atkins center contradicts itself.

This is a low-carb newsgroup, not strictly an Atkins newsgroup. I follow

the
CKD, the Anabolic Diet, and the Warrior Diet. But most importantly, I

follow
Lyle's New Ultimate Diet.

Well, she is on the Atkins diet, thus my comment about what you had said.
Again, it was not meant to be taken personally by yourself :-)

And you must be insecure and/or completely ignorant if you call people on a
weight loss group (which is meant to be a S-U-P-P-O-R-T GROUP) and idiot.

Ok. I guess what I'm saying then is that I agree with you about Atkins
selling less than optimum advice.

Seems to me that that is about what I lost in my first two weeks.
Sure, I was disappointed, because you see other people losing so
much more, but we all lose at different rates. Isn't losing that
5 pounds better than gaining weight or staying at the same
weight. Be patient, and, assuming you are eating right, the
pounds will come off. (I have now, after about 3.5 months, lost
20-21 lbs--scale is not accurate.)

Telling people they can eat all they want and lose weight sells books. The
thing with a low carb and higher protien / fat diet is that the appetite
will be supressed because of the fat, thus the dieter should be eating less.

I saw your other thread, Steve. Eat yer damned vegetables, and I don't
mean corn. Atkins is very clear that you should be eating salad and/or
non-starchy cooked vegetables, and not "being paranoid" about every
last carb.

Atkins never says eat all you want. He says to eat until satisfied --
enough that you're not hungry. Unfortunately a lot of people misinterpret
this as "eat all you want." And a lot of overweight people got into the
habit of just eating, and are out of touch with hunger signals.

Perhaps the person having trouble loosing is eating hidden carbs, or not
counting properly. Perhaps he or she is on some sort of anti-depressant salt

It's fairly common to stall scalewise after the initial induction losses,
although most people stall after the second week, for one to three weeks.
There's a theory that the body is rebalancing fluids after the initial
diuretic effect of induction, and this masks loss on the scale for
a while.

If the original poster is a woman, she should be aware that it is fairly
common for women to only see losses on the scale in the first half of their
cycles. Hormonal fluid retention masks fat loss the rest of the time,
for many women.

I also didn't see how much weight this person is looking to lose.
For people looking to lose less than 40 pounds or so, total calories
will be more of an issue than for people looking to lose larger amounts
of weight. Cheese is a common staller, at roughly 100 calories per
cubic inch.
