Loss of appetite, after only 2.5 days normal? Pls read.
Hello... I started doing Atkins seriously (and for all the RIGHT reasons,
not just to get a flat tummy) on Tuesday night, at about 10pm, so it is about three days in a few hours that I have been under 20g of carbs... I should also point out that I am most likely WAY under 20 grams of carbs (if that matters), I have literally just been eating Kraft Cracker Barrel marble cheese, and Clover Leaf Flaked Light Tuna in water... as well as eggs and turkey or chicken. I definitely eat red meat, but I haven't had much time to prepare anything for myself. Today I also had some chubby chicken (breasts) at A&W, which I took the skin off (but I snacked a bit on the skin, BAD Steven lol). But what I have noticed, is that even though I have been eating less, I am far less hungry, and don't want to sit down to a supersized McChicken meal, or eat 2 cups of pasta, 4 pieces of bread, and beef-tomato sauce. What am I eating? I am eating for dinner (at work, cant cook and work weird shifts, so no getting to the grocery store (yet): Kraft Cracker Barrel Marble Cheese (227g) 1 or 2 Clover Leaf Flaked Light Tuna (170g per can)... I am drinking alot of tea (decaffeinated) and/or Pepsi, but that is about it. When I get home, I am eating usually 4-6 chicken hot dogs (regular sized), or 4 eggs, and 6 or 7 strips of turkey bacon. When I get up, I am eating perhaps a few pieces of sliced turkey, or getting some chicken (sans skin) as I mentioned above. Also drinking as much water as before (which was ALOT, to say the least) So I am wondering if I am experiencing the norm? the book (new diet rev.) says that after 2 days your bodies limited supply of something (I cant recall the name atm) produced from steady carb intake is used up, and your body starts to enter ketosis, and it mentions that you WILL loose your constant hunger in most cases, but is it meant to happen this fast? If so, awesome... Thanks for reading. You all seem so helpful here. |

Amazing, isn't it, that you can lose weight without feeling miserably hungry all the time. My DH had *sworn* he was never going to try and lose weight again after a miserable time with a low-fat starvation prescribed by a dietician. A year ago he joined me in LC and feels amazingly healthy and has dumped a lot of the excess fat he used to carry and yet he doesn't feel deprived, hungry or miserable.. He's even gotten his research assistant (DH is a professional scientist) to try the same and he's doing well too. Best of luck on your LC journey. I can tell you from my own experience that this sounds normal. The very
first time I did Atkins I was sick as a dog for the first 2 days, then everything was great. I felt so much better that I was kicking myself for not doing it sooner. And to not be hungry. That is the best feeling in the world for someone who used to ALWAYS be hungry. As long as you aren't noticing any bad side effects, I wouldn't worry. Your body has just adjusted really well, and quickly, to your diet change. Jump for joy (it burns a few extra calories as well as making you feel good) and keep up the good work. If so, awesome... This has been the experience of both my husband and me....it's great! We're pretty new to LC (7 weeks), so I hope it continues to be this way. I've been on many a diet in my 45 years, but this has been the easiest one I've ever been on, because I don't have cravings and I'm not hungry....and I don't let myself get hungry, because I find that's when I'm most vulnerable to wanting to eat carbs if they are around. I just pop a pork rind or some nuts and I'm good to go. Sue LC since 10/6/03 |

I should also point out that I am most likely WAY under 20 grams of carbs (if that matters), I have literally just been eating Kraft Cracker Barrel marble cheese, 1 carb per ounce I did some math, and it works out like this: 1 Package @ 227g. Each serving (1 serving = 30g) contains 0.7g of carb 227/20=7.56 servings per 227g package 7.56 x 0.7g carbs = 5.3g carbs total :-) and Clover Leaf Flaked Light Tuna in water... as well as eggs and turkey or chicken. That sort of info isnt easy to come by, but i fugured it was safe, and since i am eating very little carb, it was ok. In the future, i will be even MORE disciplined. But what I have noticed, is that even though I have been eating less, I am far less hungry, and don't want to sit down to a supersized McChicken meal, or eat 2 cups of pasta, 4 pieces of bread, and beef-tomato sauce. Check your label. 1 serving (1 dog) = 0.3g of carbs each. They are Maple Leaf chicken hot dogs. I am pretty sure they arent available in the united states, maple leaf is a canadian company. Maple Leaf makes some of the best quality chicken products i have ever had. Their grain fed chicken (its all they sell) has such a great taste to it, it is all i will buy. Thanks for the warning though. I have noticed that no name brand safeway dogs have 2.5g of carbs each, so i went with the brand name stuff. or 4 eggs, half a carb each. and 6 or 7 strips of turkey bacon. depending on whether it was cured with sugar or not, could be 1 carb each. About 0.7g of carbs per serving, and i cannot recall what a serving is, probably 1 or 2 pieces. I dont know ounces (sorry), as i am in canada, and we are metric. When I get up, I am eating perhaps a few pieces of sliced turkey, or getting some chicken (sans skin) as I mentioned above. Thats neat info to have. Thanks alot :-) I have to admit, at first i thought you were knocking what i was eating (i am terribly defensive)... But its encouraging to hear that i am doing well. I am personally PARANOID about the carbs i am taking in, and i am trying to stay as close to zero as i can. I re-read my first post, and i said i was drinking pepsi. Of course, that is DIET pepsi, i just wanted to point that out. Congratulations on taking the plunge and welcome to the group. It's okay to eat the (unbreaded) skin -- in fact, it's probably BENEFICIAL because you DO need the fat and skins are usually pretty tasty :-) What is glaringly missing, however, is veggies. Most of the 20 carbs during induction SHOULD come from veggies. It's also important to get ENOUGH food that your body doesn't think there's a famine and thus tries to thwart losing any weight. Are you taking supplements? These are also important. I am taking a multi vitamin every morning, along with the first thing that i munch on. I havent felt any sorts of leg cramps at all, just a little bit of muscular fatigue (i have been getting tired at a more decent hour the past few days, i used to have days that were very long, but could not sleep well, and would rely on an alarm to get up in the morning, but still got 8 hours of sleep a day), but also energetic, more so than before. I have been eating some sweet delmonte corn, but its 15 grams for 1/2 cup! I assume its because there is alot of sugar in the water it is canned in. I need to get something for "regularity" tomorrow from the health food store. I have cut down my trips to the washroom in one department, but i am peeing alot more it seems... So i dont know what's happening. probably i am needing to cut down how much i drink so i dont overdo it. What are some low carb veggies that arent starch filled (and consequently, filled with natuar sugars?) What can i expect to pay for Psyllium husk? It's great that you are experiencing the lack of cravings. It happened within a couple of days for me, too.
