Default Already hungry on day 1 of South Beach Diet

Ok, the book says you won't get hungry on this diet. My dad said he
didn't get hungry. I do have hypoglycemia, so maybe that's why? I hope
it gets better. Am I allowed to eat another mozzarrella stick or
allowed only one? I don't think I can make it till lunch.

I'm not SBD...but in my experience with Atkins you typically don't gain the
appetite suppressing benefits for 3-5 days of strictly following the diet.
Believe me...I have to force myself to eat some meals, and I weigh over 250.
Give it time...but don't look for miracles in day one.

If you are hungry at _beginning_ of _induction_, simply eat more - but
only from list of allowed foods. Well, this is not Southbeach specific,
so maybe good dr. Agaston meant it another way, but my personal
experience for general LC WOE.

Purpose of induction is to break carb cravings, not necessary to loose
the weight. So eat more, but not carbs.

Mozarella is ok, I think. Or have some eggs. Or meat. Or put more oil to
your veggies.

I'm on SBD and yes, if you're hungry, it's okay to eat another
mozzarella stick or something else. Stick with it, you will be
able to get by on less food. I've been on for a month and I can't
eat half as much as I used to be able to eat.

I used to be disgusted. Now I try to be amused.

I am frustrated because I have been on the diet for 2 months, and have
been following it as I should. I have only lost 1 pound since Phase
1. Any one else having the same problem? The way I figure, I should
have lost 20 pounds by now, but have only lost 12. What am I doing
wrong??

How do you figure what you "should have lost"? There's no standard I'm
aware of, it all depends on what you eat, how active you are and how your
body processes food. You lost 12 so far, nothing to scoff at. You're gonna
slow down after Phase 1. What you eat matters. Watch calories, exercise
more. That's the only magic. If you're not losing weight, it's because
you're eating to much food. Track what you eat, cut back on the higher carb
items, cut back on high calorie items, exercise more.

Whatever you do, don't just say "screw it" and grab the doritos bag. That
will *really* slow ya down, I'm thinking.

Hang in there. I'm no expert, but everything I said has been said before in
this group. I repeat it only as good advice.

The phrase YMMV really applies in spades here.

Are you keeping track of your calories? If not, you might try it and see
whether they are falling in a sensible range. I find that "eat until you
are satiated" diets do not work for me because I am so used to overeating
that I don't really recognize satiety. I need more guidance. If you are
the same type of person, you may be eating too many calories. I have read
around here that most folks can lose fat while eating at calorie levels of
8-12 times their body weight. Adding or increasing exercise is another way
to boost weight loss. Also, the closer you are to goal, the more you will
have to watch the calories and be diligent about the exercise.
