Default Bluedragonfly via the Wayback Machine

Understandably, the creator and maintainer of the bluedragonfly site
has been troubled by the media hype about her site, and has edited it
drastically.

However, the Internet Wayback Machine can give those who are interested
in the site and its frequenters a better sample of its past content.

This statement by the creator/maintainer/bracelet entrepreneur sums it
up for me:

"So I build a shrine to Ana. She is my strength. I struggle to
understand how anyone can tell me that something that does so much good
can hurt me. It's trite to say that they are jealous, but think of
it--they do not have Ana to make them beautiful. They are happy being
blind to their imperfections. An imperfect body reflects an imperfect
person."

Although I support the bluedragonfly creator's freedom of speech and
right to post her own ideas, however troubling I find them, on the
Internet, I can also understand why parents with a child who read
bluedragonfly and other "pro-ana" sites, and wore a bracelet to
identify herself to fellow pro-anorexics, would be concerned.

There are a couple of discussions about this in the NG, but thanks for
your input.

Well, I'm not sure if it's OT or not, but I appreciate the information. I
have a 13yo daughter who wants to start LC-ing (I'm procrastinating like
crazy, I have no idea what she needs in terms of carbs whilst she's
growing), and I need to know what might happen if her perfectly normal
interest in her body tips over into something of more concern.

Nicky.

Carbs are used for energy, not growth. The thing you need most for growth
is protein. The only thing you really need foods containing carbs for is
the nice vitamins, minerals and oxidants they contain and those are found
most abundantly in the low carb veggies and fruits. You didn't say if she
was overweight so that would affect how many carbs would be appropriate but
there really is no need for her to eat potatoes and rice and grains,
particularly refined grains.
