"Ignoramus15841" wrote in message ... In my first month of dieting, I lost 20 lbs. I was not even low carbing, just eating less and walking, maybe 50% of calories from fat. It was an unintended rate of weight loss that slowed to 8 lbs per month thereafter. It simply happened. [SNIP] being on every low fat diet imaginable, i never lost more than 8lbs the first week and 2lbs after that, per week, then dwindling down to every month, then nothing. it sucked. im not new to starving myself, i did it all through highschool and reading that thread about anorexia really didnt seem all that shocking. girls have been starving themselves into whatever the 'size' is that year for a very long time. i have never been successful on a diet, much less with starvation. when i get stressed, i cant eat. for two weeks i sat and worried about a very wonderful person who i love dearly. you're calling me stupid? well alright then.. but to have lost a significant amount of weight with low carb (i never lost weight like this, duh, or i wouldnt be here or obese in the first place), thats astonishing to me. as far as *i* knew, nobody lost 25lbs in a month without being severely overweight or doing some drastic surgery...which is why i asked here. i have regained eating since my man's alright. we are still under a lot of stress but now that im home i'm okay and having 1 solid meal a day with snacks at night while we watch adult swim (cartoon network)...(yea yea, flame on)...oh and by the way, im not doing it because *JC* said so.. lol. im doing it because im just not hungry -- why should i force feed myself? isnt that why i'm here in the first place? everybody says its eventually about calories -- why should i force too many on me? anyway, you asked what i eat? today a sandwich with lc bread. water, water, water. honestly im not hungry. yesterday it was jello, lc chips & salsa. day before that was a steak, sauteed veggies and jello. if starvation worked, i wouldnt be so surprised. i guess it will eventually, but my sugar was so out of control. i would get weak, dizzy, almost sick i was so hungry. not the case here in low carb. yes i find it to be a miracle. something works. so i'm naive that it would really work that well for me. /shrug. if thats stupid, i guess i am. for somebody that failed time and time again, im proud of the [almost] 100lbs (5 more to go for that lil goal) ive lost so far and the 25lbs this month due to low carb. thanks for the support to those that have been supportive. i really appreciate your advice. -tia |

LC works particularly well for people with IGT and diabetics. Your glucose control will get better with weight loss, particularly if you maintain that with exercise. I think if I were you though I'd try for more veggies and less jello : ) There's also the concept that you might slow your metabolism by eating too little - although I agree you don't want to force-feed yourself. Maybe if you added in some exercise to that cartoon mix you'd want to eat a bit more good food, and solve several dilemmas in one : ) Nicky. -- A1c 10.5/4.5/6 Weight 95/78/72Kg 1g Metformin, 87.5ug Thyroxine T2 DX 05/2004 |

i was wondering how you handle low carb foods that have sugar in them? im
doing my best to try and find deli meats, chicken broths, etc, without sugar. so far, ive just been avoiding foods and restaurants that specifically dont use marinades and sugary ingredients. its getting pretty sparse tho. do you just cope with the small amounts of sugars in foods? or do you avoid them ? ive not found a single deli meat (regardless of price) that didnt have a trace of sugar or dextrose, and i cant seem to find italian style sausages and other products that dont have at least dextrose in them. chicken broth - fuggedabout it... everything has sugar. im worried about the last time i tried atkins and i accidentally had something with sugar and i got really sick. so what do you guys do? -tia ___ "Nicky" wrote in message ... These foods are designed to appeal to non-low-carber masses, hence the sugar. |

"tia" wrote in message . com... i was wondering how you handle low carb foods that have sugar in them? Carb is carb - your body doesn't care if you're eating a spoonful of glucose, potatoes or flour. I don't avoid glucose especially (just add it all up), but I'm very careful of sugar alcohols, because I metabolise them in just the same way as sugar. Ignoramus15841 wrote: I cannot see a huge harm in eating 1 gram of sugar in 100 grams of meat. i As is nearly always the case in manufactured foods, there are plenty of carbs to go around. Here's a link to just hot dogs but the same applies to other deli meats. Check out the range of carbs due to "low-fat" varieties. http://www.wmdt.com/diet/previous-diet.asp+id+59 |

i have a chart where i track my weight. i noticed the other day that i was on low carb for exactly 1 month. i weighed that day to see what my total was for the month....... i lost 25lbs? that sounds extreme to me, and honestly im wondering if thats dangerous or too fast. is this common? from what i've been reading, folks are trying to lose about 5 per month. maybe some info about me would help? i'm 28, no real meds, just birth control... highest ever wt was 315, and im at almost 215 now. i still have a bit to go to hit goal at 150, but its well on its way. also, another question, my husband is dropping a lot of weight. he's lost 12lbs this month and he was at his goal of 172 last month when i started lc. i'm trying like mad to get him to eat more dense carbs, while having him eat healthy, but his appetite is only so big. we cant afford two sets of foods, so since i need to lose pretty bad, he decided to lc with me. will low carb drop him too low? do you think he will stop somewhere? at six foot, 160lbs isnt horrible, but its low for him. any lower and im going to be real concerned. he's very muscular and atheletic and while its nice seeing the muscles show thru more and more, im worried he will drop too far. plus 12lbs in 1 month is a huge percentage for him at his weight. any ideas? please help. Give him some sweet dessert, like ice cream, carrot cake, little cakes or something like that. These pack in the carbohydrates and extra calories to keep his weight up. Then you and he differ in diet in only one thing. |
