Default Day 25 of 100 Days to Thanksgiving

Day 25 of 100 Days to Thanksgiving
September 8, 2005
253/237/195

I got on my scale this morning and weighed 237 pounds - two pounds
less than yesterday and so now 16 pounds are gone. I think that part of
the reason for the weight loss was that the 900 calories or so I had
yesterday (one can of salmon, some cheese, and some non-fat milk) was
mainly protein - no carbohydrates to speak of. (And this led to more
water loss.)

I walked up my hill last night with my 25 pound backpack that went
well. Carrying my backpack has really not been difficult and it surely
has good in increasing the cardiovascular workout. Last evening was
very nice, although the rain will be coming in just in time for our
backpacking trip starting tomorrow. Yesterday weather reports said that
the freezing level was moving down to 5,500 feet where we will be
camping, and there might be too much snow on the ground to get to the
top of Middle Sister (just a tad over 10,000 feet high). We'll see
tomorrow. Perhaps we'll go on another hike.

I'm watching a bit of the coverage of Katrina on TV and there is
concern about other storms hitting Florida or other areas, including
Georgia, and Cuba. I was just thinking that if I were given ahead of
times warnings about the great tasting foods were available in future
meals, I probably would obsess about them and grab many, many more
calories than I should. (There is a lot of knowledge - such as how to
order high calorie foods quickly - that I just don't want to have.)

While hurricane reports will not affect where a hurricane will go,
reporting on what foods are available has resulted in too much demand
from me about what and how much I will eat. Now that I've been on
this little program for 25 days, it's sure much easier to fight off
food temptations as they occur. Seems to me that the temptations
associated with food is one of the things that makes recording calories
so difficult (or counterproductive) for some people. (I guess it's
kind of like "window-shopping" - I'd rather not look at things
I can't buy.)

At any rate, I hope everyone succeeds in finding what works for them
and in sticking with it! If they do, then unless the laws of physics
are suspended in their neck of the universe, they WILL HAVE TO lose
weight if they take in fewer calories than they burn.

We're leaving early tomorrow morning and I'll return Sunday
evening! Have a great weekend!

Yours,

Caleb

Sometimes I do succumb to oysters and other such things. No doubt about
that.

I guess I also like salt a lot.

Yours,

Caleb (who is now trying not to think of oysters)
