First off, that should have been "Moved to OWL." I was not suggesting that
you move to OWL if you don't want to.

I did it because I wanted to eat other things besides the foods on the
induction list. To really be on induction, you need to eat from the list,
not just keep carbs at or below 20g.

Even so, 20 g is not a lot of veggies. And if you exercise at all with any
intensity, staying on induction is hard at that level.

||
|| maybe you just didn't know how to cook?
||

I do pretty good, actually.

Honestly, I see no reason to restrict to the induction list at or below 20g
if you can lose weight at higher carb levels.

The longer you stay on Induction, the more bored you'll become, the more
you'll get cravings, the more you'll probably cheap---and then have to go
back on Induction. Atkins hedges on how long you should stay on Induction.
Agatston and his South Beach diet are more forthright---2 weeks, 3 if you
think you need it---but then move on otherwise you'll die from boredom.

Look, you've got Atkins saying you should work up to 60-80 carbs or more a
day. Protein Power by the Eades says up to 100 carbs or more, Agataston says
eat what you want, just watch the GI of the foods you eat. The whole point,
however, is to get back to a way of eating that shows moderation, not
deprivation---portion control. If you want to eat like a piteous monk during
Lent and suffer, stay on Induction. If you want to relearn how to eat, to
enjoy most foods, and make controlled carbing a lifestyle change, move on.

I'm finding that out, now. I am using this woe to re-learn how to eat and
how much. When I hit Maintenance, I plan to be able to eat small portions
of pasta, brown rice, and white potato.

The lesson I learned: Calories count; induction levels of carbs = higher
calories, not conducive to long-term weight loss.

Good point. Adding carbs back makes your overall intake less
calorie-dense if you're watching calories overall.

I stayed on induction just long enough to kick my physiological cravings
which was about 8 weeks. I lost dramatically during the first couple of
weeks, stalled just as dramatically after 3 weeks, and then started losing
pretty slowly but quite steadily without any major stalls when I went to
OWL.

I found that the single most important thing about adding back carbs was
to watch what KIND of carbs I was adding. I stuck to veggie carbs with
some fruit carbs, mostly berries, but almost no grain carbs for a long
time. I've recently been able to add back the occasional small serving of
popcorn, Cornflakes, rice, oatmeal, and such, but absolutely still cannot
have wheat or beer or potatoes without triggering major problems with
cravings.

Your best guide is to see how you feel when you start adding back carbs.
If you keep feeling good, you're probably on the right track. And if you
have besetting sins, like I do, these may be things you'll have to leave
alone for some time to come.

I stayed on "induction" for 2 weeks, but kept to about 20 carbs longer than
that. IOW, I really wanted Diet Coke, which is my "fun" drink so I added
that back in after two weeks. I also didn't realize carrots were on the
forbidden list and ate those all along (I started without the book
available to me and, while I read their website, apparently missed the
fact that carrots were high in carbs--but it didn't hurt me.)

After about three months I added more carbs by virtue of the fact that I
quit counting so much, and just ate two meals a day and tried to really
listen to my body's levels of hunger. Since I wasn't hungry, I didn't eat,
and the weight just "fell" off me...according to those around me. (at
the rate of about 10 lbs/month til I got to 150 at which time it came to a
screeching halt and it took about 4 months to get the next 10 lbs off.

Did you stay on Induction for longer than 2 weeks or go directly to OWL at
that point?

This was brought up in another thread and I would like to know how you did
it.

I have been doing Induction for about 2 months and have lost 17lbs. I was
planning to continue this way for a while longer, maybe till I lose 30lbs
then go to OWL.

I would like to know your experiences with this if you'll share.

I stayed in induction also. For 2-3 months. I had lost a considerable amount of
weight by then. I think around 25-30 pounds. Then cravings set in, not feeling
full after meals. Then the weight loss slowed down, to about nothing. I went
onto OWL. Been on it since. I can have up to 40 grams of carbs a day.
