Default Low Carb Vacation - LAS VEGAS

How difficult can it be to refrain from eating foods outside of your diet?
Are you really that weak and stupid?

Hey there gang....

Heading to Las Vegas in two weeks, and really need suggestions as to how I
should go about "Low Carbing" while in Las Vegas.

I plan to go to a lot of buffets... are a lot of them catering to the Low
Carb diets now? Are any of them better than others?

Your input & feedback is greatly appreciated.

In my opinion buffets and dieting do not go together. Having said that if
you don't mind $30 a head, Bellagio buffet is the best I've had there.

You are on vacation enjoy yourself, indulge, then when you get back, get
back on the diet. Or eat the foods you are eating now.

I really don't understand the hurdles, meat, green leafy vegetables, cheese,
etc - low carb food in Vegas "is" low carb food in Mexico, Indiana, or
Anytown, World.

You'll find a way. I spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica on business and managed to
find the time to exercise every day and eat within the limits of LC. If it
is important enough to stay on you just do it.

My answer to your questions everyone has posted...

1. I have been dieting "low-carb" for over a year now, and have lost 100
lbs. This is my lifestyle now, and I do not plan to "spluge" while in Vegas
and go back on the diet when I get home. I plan to maintain my diet. (I
even have at my friends wedding - no cake for me!)

2. I am asking for suggestions because sometimes Buffets and other places
are VERY high carb, and don't have many low-carb options. I was trying to
find out the BEST places to go with Low Carb Variety (especially buffets) so
I can get the most for my money.

Thanks.

I confess that I've never really understood why this is an issue or concern
to anyone. You don't have to have a restaurant that caters to LC in order
to eat LC while in a restaurant, whether it's a menu-order restaurant or
buffet. The only types of restaurants that I can think of which can be
difficult are Italian, Chinese and Mexican - but even in those it's usually
possible to find or alter _something_ on the menu to suit your needs.

Restaurant eating is no different than going grocery shopping, if you think
about it. Grocery stores do not cater specifically to LC, but you can still
find plenty of acceptable LC choices in any grocery store. A buffet is much
the same. I've yet to see a regular-type buffet (as opposed to a specialty
buffet like Chinese) that didn't have several meat choices, as well as
several acceptable vegetable choices, as well as a salad bar. Most casino
buffets I've ever been to have an even wider array of choices than places
like Barnhill's or Golden Corral do.

Enjoy your vacation, and I'm sure you'll find plenty of acceptable LC things
to eat while you're there, g.

I go to Vegas a couple times a year. Any decent buffet will have a good
selection of meat, salad bar, and at least some vegetables. For me the
problem is not the selection available but limiting the quantities. There
is something about a buffet that encourages overeating. I've found that
restaurants in Vegas are very LC accommodating. On several occasions I've
ordered a roast beef sandwich without the bread without so much as a blink
from the server. If you do go the buffet route, suggest you load up first
on salad and then sit back for a bit before going back for meat, etc. This
curbs the appetite and helps limit overeating. While most buffets will
have some low carb deserts, my favorite is to dip fresh strawberries in sour
cream mixed with a bit of splenda. Hope you come back with lots of cash and
no extra weight.

You could Google the newsgroup alt.vacation.las-vegas for recommendations on
specific buffets.

Living in Las Vegas, we go to a casino buffet at least 3 or 4 times a week
and find all kinds of meat, fish, salads and veggies on them. Any buffet
will have more low-carb items than you can possibly eat.
There are also usually desserts called sugar-free, but I don't even go
there, as the pies seem to have graham cracker crusts and topped with some
kind of horrid topping, and you know the cakes have flour in them. If you
can find sugar-free jello I usually have that.
We went to the Bellagio just once this year and I don't really recommend it
at a cost of over $68 for the 2 of us. Their prime rib wasn't all that
good, but the best thing was their peeled shrimp.

Robert, I lived in Las Vegas for 11 years and almost all of the buffets
carry a good selection of vegtables, seafood, chicken, steak, etc. I
guarantee you won't leave one wanting more if you follow your WOE.
I especially enjoyed the casino buffet at "Main Street Station". There
are several called "______ Station" and they are all good places to eat.

Have Fun & Good Luck;

Breakfast in Vegas -- we did McDonalds -- egg mcmuffin -- hold the muffin --
cheaper and better than a breakfast buffet. WE had a Mickey D's in our hotel
