Lately I have been having some bad days. Drinking beer is the
worst thing for me and it changes my whole outlook. Anyway, I
like to come here for support...this being a support group. I
find that I don't want to ask for help here anymore because if
you do JC sniffs out a person that is feeling down and tries to
put him/her down further.

No, it isn't just you.

It isn't just JC. It is exacerbated when his supporters rally to his aid
and get on YOU for letting him affect you rather than getting on HIM for
being a jerk to begin with.

People will say things like words shouldn't affect you while ignoring the
obvious conundrum of why anyone would come to a support group in the first
place (to hear _words_ of encouragement -- they obviously can affect).

I don't mind jostling with JC, but it is a shame this environment of
support requires dealing with his poisonous spirit along with whatever
other demons folks coming here need to take on.

That said, keep on keeping on. One monkey don't stop no show. Your overall
progress is great and a few "setbacks" mean nothing in the grand scheme of
things. Remember your temptations, and remember your solutions. You've

beat
your temptations before and you can beat them again.

Thanks,
Curt

Hi Curt, happens to the best of us, but could it be that you lost too
much weight?

Like others, I suggest dropping drinking entirely...

i

Yeah, I may have to. I just love good beers and in Pennsylvania, we have
some really good mico's. Lancaster, Victory, Stoudts to name a few.

I guess I will do my best. I was okay when I would have one bad day a week,
but that turned into two and three and then four and then I start to gain.

Enjoy,
Curt

You mean you don't have JC killfiled? That makes it much more pleasant here.
I never see anything he says unless someone else quotes him, which,
unfortunately, does happen more than I would like. Hope you can hang in
there, and come here for the *most* of us who are relatively decent and
supportive folks. :-)

Anyway, I have not been doing all that great, but hope to turn the
corner tomorrow. I have not gained that much, but if I continue I
will be going back to an old weight.

Thanks for listening,
Curt

And I find I spend less and less time writing supportive advice and
suggestions because most of the time the person asking for support focuses
on JC and his followers and doesn't even bother thanking the people that
actually took the time to help. Seriously. Watch the threads. Someone will
ask for help then get into an argument with JC. Meanwhile ten other people
have written lengthy worthwhile advice. While the OP has enough time to
reply 50 times to JC, the rest who actually helped (if they're lucky) may,
several days later, get a general "thanks everyone, except JC, for the
help".

"Take what you need and leave the rest." has always been a Usenet truism.

I
suggest you write it down, tape it to your monitor, and take the advice to
heart.

Yeah, I agree. I see that happen with the OP all the time. JC starts an
argument and the support the person asked for is lost.

Good point,
Curt

You completely missed my point. It takes two to have an argument. No one can
'start' anything unless someone else joins in.

and the support the person asked for is lost.

It's not lost, it just ends up being less important to them than getting the
last word in. And if people who do post support get the feeling that it's
not really important then what's the point of continuing to do it?

To All the nice people in alt.support.diet.low-carb who are just here to try
and help one another with their eating lifestyle:

Obviously JC has issues. Note post here as example. Looks like his buttons
get pushed when he senses vulnerability or injury in someone else.

In reality that doesn't mean JC has to have access to those buttons.

Its up to you to get your own buttons out of range. Short of that if your
button(s) do get pushed then its up to you to let it slide gently into the
mud.

Besides ... this NG is supposed to be about low-carbers not carpers, isn't
it? Just ignore the OT remarks and mush on. Er ... maybe I should say
"bacon on" since mush, I'm quite sure, is not low-carb.
