Default staying OP without a kitchen

Well Ray isn't the only one remodeling a kitchen. We're doing new cabinets,
counter, and floor and the install work is starting on Monday. I spent
yesterday packing and hauling everything out of the cabinets and storing it
in the loft while DH took out the finishing work (crown moldings, etc).
Today we pulled out all of the cabinets and counter and hauled them down to
the basement.

I have no kitchen sink and won't for at least the next two weeks. The new
floor and cabinets are going in this week. So the plan for eating is going
to be sandwiches, lean cuisines, fruit, and raw veggies that I've already
cut up and put in the fridge until the floor goes in (dinner tonight is at
the golf course because we're playing in a tournament later this afternoon).
The fridge and microwave are in the mud room for now. Once the floor is in
I'll be able to get out to the deck again and we'll be doing grilling at
least for supper - I can use the tub for cleaning the utensils.

I probably won't want to see another turkey sandwich for a while when this
is done, but it's cheaper and more OP than going out for most meals.

We are three weeks into it and have an almost usable kitchen again. We
still need to do some paintwork, fit a new radiator, some skirting,
the flooring, and put everything back.

Unfortunately when thats done we have to start on the lounge, stairs,
and landing, which though stripped still have to be prepared and
painted before the new carpets go down.

Eating has been a trial. I'll be glad to be able to cook again.

I hope it all goes well and you are as pleased with your new kitchen
as we are with ours.

Thanks. Fortunately we're doing this by choice and not necessity. The
kitchen is part of a "great room" (living room/dining room/kitchen) with 14'
ceilings so the floor is technically for 3 rooms. Unlike when the house was
built, we're putting it down first instead of around the cabinets. When we
built 6 years ago we skimped on the kitchen because I disliked cooking and
we wanted to cut the overall cost. In a way I'm glad we waited to upgrade
so I really know what I want now that I like to cook and need a better
cook's kitchen. It's just another of the "benefits" of weight loss I guess
.

Then I won't mention the built in spice rack cabinet next to the stove...

I'm so totally geeked out about it that I've been shopping online for the
perfect spice bottles - that no one will see!

*sigh* my friend re-did her kitchen 2 years ago and I visited her not long
afterward... it was the kitchen of my dreams, walk in pantry... big island
with burners on it, lots of counter space, everything!

Will~ one day I'll be rich!

I looked into the cooktop, but I don't have the room. I only have a small
area to work with. We're doing more of a reconfiguration and upgrade of
materials. I'm also adding some cabinets in the dining area that will make
it similar to a breakfront or hutch, but built in. Besides the pull out
spice rack the only other real luxury I went for was the completely
extending pull out shelves in the cabinets and pantry.

I joked with DH about getting rid of the dining area next to the kitchen and
then putting in a mondo large kitchen with a big old island. It didn't fly.

My kitchen is extremely small.. but with some money.. I'd make it work.. of
course, everytime I share my plans with DH, he's like "sure baby... as soon
as we win the lottery..."
