Default REC Cheese Taco Shells

I found this on a website and felt compelled to share because I thought they
were really good.

Spray Pam on a plate. Sprinkle enough shredded cheddar on the plate to form
a circle about the size of a taco. Make sure you have enough to cover the
circle so there will be no holes.

Microwave on high for about 2 minutes. Take it out and fan it with a spatula
till it stops bubbling. Repeat, microwaving for a minute a time until the
cheese become rather hard and lightly brown all the way to the middle.

Spray Pam on the spatula an use it to take the cheese off in one piece. If
your shell tears, it wasn't cooked enough. While it's still hot, let it fold
over your spatula into a taco shell shape. It will harden into a very
crunchy, tasty taco.

These are really great. The site I found this on is

I just use 2 slices of fat-reduced cheese (fat-reduced because it
seems to provide better coverage), the first one whole, and the
second torn up to more or less fill the center of the SPRAYED
plate. When it melts, it assumes a rounder shape anyway.

Microwave on high for about 2 minutes. Take it out and fan it with a spatula
till it stops bubbling. Repeat, microwaving for a minute a time until the

I microwave for about 90 secs and keep assessing and slightly
repositioning the plate. Never saw a need to fan. (BTW, my new
even-more-powerful microwave takes longer. Go figure.

Spray Pam on the spatula an use it to take the cheese off in one piece.

I haven't found it necessary to spray the utensil.

I agree. This technique is quite useful. I make "pizzas" like
this and also LOVE tuna on it (just one piece with half a can of
tuna made the way I like it).

Parchment paper is an excellent alternative to Pam. It can also be
used a second (or third!) time if you're making several taco shells.

Throwing the cheese into a non stick frying pan works great too. Fry
until golden on med/medhi and flip once. I lay a papertowel over a
bowl, put the hot cheese on the bowl, press and when it cools you have
a bowl to eat from and eat the bowl too or hand it to your five year
old who loves fried cheese and its fun!!!

Marty, here in NC, I can get it at the grocery store, in the aisle with
foil and waxed paper. Wal-Mart also has it, I think.
P.S. DO NOT try the melted cheese thing with waxed paper. It's the
biggest mess you ever saw!

Thanks for the paper tips ladies! =A0
