This site contains an award winning article ( from "Science")about a
certain Senator from a small state who wanted to run for President in
the 70's. In return for campaign financing from multinational grain
processors, he pushed through congress legislation requiring the
government to recommend Americans eat a Sumo wrestler diet.

Thank God he lost the election ( he sells used cars in his home state
today)but the legislation is with us to this day. Even after the
government spent $750 million unsuccessfully trying to prove eating
this way was good for you.

It's a ripping good read and they name names!
