I noticed last month that she looked great and I told her so -- I let
her know everything she was doing was obviously working for her and
that I was proud of her. I didn't get anything then, but I didn't
think much of it since I didn't feel like I had lost significant
weight. Now I'm down 25 lbs, everyone is noticing, and still nothing
from her. I thought maybe it wasn't obvious, but a co worker came up
to me today and said I am an inspiration to her because I'm shrinking
before her eyes, and I look so healthy.

I think I would take the grudging compliment (and that's what it is!)
of being too skinny over being ignored.

It sounds to me that she is jealous. Have you confronted her about this?
This could wreck a friendship....

I've had some variations on this. One SIL has always been in athletic
good shape - had a tummy tuck as soon as she was done having kids and
still wears mini-skirts in her 40's. (And can get away with it.)
Anyway, she didn't mention my weight loss until I'd lost over 50 pounds.
I think she was just staying out of it in case I regained it all. Or
maybe she didn't think going from fat to still-fat made any difference.
Whatever, it was weird, but she eventually started making a fuss. It
was all the sweeter for having been hard-earned.

Dally and Chris do have good points.... she may sincerely not notice if she
sees you all the time.

I haven't confronted her, I was thinking maybe she is just incredibly
self-absorbed right now. We are going out this afternoon for a
pedicure, so if there is an opportunity, I may bring it up. She knows
I have changed my WOL, at least I know I mentioned it a month ago, but
there was no recognition of it then either. You're right about
jealousy ruining a friendship, nothing will kill it quicker IME.

I was nonplussed that friends I hadn't seen in 3 months failed to
notice my 25lb loss over the interim.
Motivates me for when I see them again this Fall -- 50lbs and 20lbs
thinner than I was in 2000 oughtta be enough difference!

I didn't get a lot of reaction until I'd lost quite a bit of weight --
maybe 30-40 lbs. After a while, though, people would react as though
I'd changed overnight. It's very weird. I still get comments all the
time, even from people who see me regularly.

This weekend I'm going to an event at Brown University (my alma
mater). I will see some people that I haven't seen since college --
when I was about the same size as now -- but many people there saw me
at an event 6 years ago when I was at my heaviest and most out of
shape. I am anticipating the reaction with mixed feelings. An
initial compliment is nice, but people go on and on and I don't know
what to say.

Say thank you!! You have more than earned it! Let them go on and on,
and if it gets to be overwhelming say, "I see so and so over there,
thanks so much for your compliments, but I need to talk to ___". That
way you can bask in the glow for a while and move on to your next
compliment! ;-)

As for the non-reaction -- she's always the one who has commented in
the past when I lost some weight, even though I was still fat. That's
why this is most puzzling to me. Plus, if I wasn't getting compliments
everywhere I go, I wouldn't think twice about it. Not that I 8need8
compliments, but it's just weird that my best friend hasn't noticed,
when even the UPS guy has?!?! :-)

Default 149! In addition to Dally's lunch...

The update from yesterday: she didn't notice. I actually didn't expect
she would and as we were talking during the appointment it occurred to
me that perhaps since she is leaving for a trip, maybe she just isn't
seeing anything but what she needs to get complete before she leaves.
I decided to let it be for a while and see what happens once she's
back for a couple of weeks.

The funny thing is this, another good friend stopped in yesterday at
work, and she didn't notice either, but she was in a weird space. Self
absorbed. She was talking about her weight loss and the method she's
employing, and all I could think about was that it sounded like a
setup for yo yo dieting, because her plan *can't* be a new WOL. She's
doing 2 protein shakes a day and 1 small meal. I just let it be, as
she wasn't in a place for listening, and I wasn't interested in
talking about myself or my new WOL.

It's interesting now that I am losing weight, how clear I am getting
to be about the people around me as well as myself. Interesting side
effect.

The upside is I am not retaining water even though my TOM starts at
some point today, and I am within 6 lbs of my wedding weight 10 years
ago.

Well I bet you feel better that she wan't ignoring the fact you lost
weight! Congrats on being so close to your wedding date weight. I am 75
lbs less then mine since I married last July.

Hi Perple,

You're absolutely right about that -- it did make me feel a LOT
better! Plus the pedicure was heavenly -- it was an aromaglow
pedicure, which means foot and leg massage is included...YUM! :-)

75 lbs less?!?!?! WOW!! That is awesome! When you get to goal, maybe
you should renew your vows since you will have a new lease on life
together!

I'll use any excuse to wear a party dress! ;-)
