A pound a week is a good average. However, given the natural fluctuations
of weight, two readings taken a week apart are not enough to judge a trend. Chart progress for a month or two, and then you can see what the real rate is. "Lass Chance" wrote in message ... Convinced the battery in my scale was surely dying, I replaced it. Then I dragged the damn thing all over the floor to find the "right" spot, the spot where the numbers would read, "190". Inagine my dismay to finally come to grips with the hard fact----only one pound gone in a week. AAAAAGGGGHHHHH. OK. Life is full of dissapointments. I warched "Hud" on TV this morning....and a least I didnt have to shoot all my cattle due to Hoof and Mouth disease....so, things could be worse. Now....my thinking was...."as long as I keep it to 20 carbs a day, it shouldnt matter where those carbs came from." Evidentally.....this is not true. If I've learned anything this week, it's this: Ya cant drink a liter of wine a day and lose weight. But what I want to know is.....WHY? why are wine carbs dfferent from food carbs? Where did my logic err? What exactly is it that makes this happen? Does alcohol....stop ketosis? Or...what? Of course, I also did O exercise this week. There is no such thing as a Free Lunch. Nor a "get out of jail free" card. Do NOT pass GO. Do not collect $200. Color me bummed. sigh. Is there anything worse than the knowledge, "I did this to myself"? LassChance Start LC~5-16-05 202-194-165 (i only weigh on Sunday) Moving aside from the engaging online argument, here.... Low-carb diets largely work for about two reasons...focusing your meals on lower-carb foods cause you to feel less hungry while your body switches to fat-burinng mode (burning up all those carbs your body stored as fat while you were eating more that your body needed), and also it seems that it takes more energy to burn stored fat than it does high-carb foods taken in directly. I do not believe in eating the "low-carb" tastealikes that often end up being higher in calories than the natural foods that are higher in carbs, but are similar in calories. Calories count, and there's no way around that. Fewer calories in and more calories out results in weight loss. Nothing magic about a low-carb diet. It mostly keeps you from having sugar spikes and keeps you from being hungry a lot, while using more of your body energy to digest what you have eaten. A lot of people here don't like JC, but he's been telling the truth for a long time... eat less and exercise more. Of course, he's a Texan. We do that a lot, tell the truth whether people want to hear it or not. Lots of people don't like George Bush, either, he does the same thing. Tells the truth whether people want to hear it or not. Amd peope who don't exactly want to hear the truth usually getting snake-bit on their butts. And then want to blame someone else for it. Go figure. |

"Marsha" wrote in message ... Lass Chance wrote: Thanks for the helpful comment, Marsha. No, I didnt read the book at all. or any other book, actually, since about 1980. Sarcasm duly noted. I did order it on tape, however and am expecting it pretty much any time now. The Library for the Blind has 11 copies---all were "out". LassChance You were given a link to the Atkins site a few weeks ago, which gives a list of approved items. I'm assuming since you can read the newsgroup, you can also read that site. If not, my apologies. Aside from that, a bottle of wine per day would qualify you as an alcoholic. You responded to a post back in May that you only wanted a drink when you were hungry, but then that "led you to another" and so on. You shouldn't be getting hungry on induction, and most of your carbs should be coming from vegetables. Marsha/Ohio Guess I'm thick-headed, I didn't actually see any sarcasm there. What I did see was someone excpress their particular lifestyle. We all have different ways of living, and focusing on a WOE may not be prevalent for some. There are about ten zillion factors that make us each unique, and I have my faults like anyoe else. I just don't like the idea of getting judgemental about anyone. Just me! |

"Except for Weapons of Mass Destruction...... and more.
Presidents lie. Some more than others. " Of course for it to be a lie, Bush would have had to have been the one person in the world who knew for a fact that Iraq did not in fact have WMD's. The same WMD's that not only US intelligence believed were there, but also British, Russian, and Israeli intelligence. Even Hans Blix and the UN weapons inspectors labeled the Iraqi's as deceptive and unwilling to supply proof of the status of thousands of WMD's the UN knew were previously there. And it's strange how it's a lie when Bush says it, yet wasn't a lie when Bill Clinton, M. Albright, John Kerry, and many others also made the same statements regarding WMD's based on the same intelligence. |

GG---I come from a long line of Irish drunks.
....But, this too, is relative. Back when I used to do a quart of rum a day and threw the occasional chair thru the window and whatnot, I used to worry about it. Compared to that, my liter of wine with no hystronics pales. I think, these days, it's mostly boredom + habit. Im not going to drink any more wine, period, until 20 pounds is off. That will give me time to get used to it and decide whether to re-introduce it in moderation or forget the wine thing entirely. LassChance Start LC~5-16-05 202-194-165 (i only weigh on Sunday) |
