Friday... again.
Well here it is Friday again. I give up, I am going to be 219 lbs for
the rest of my stinkin life at this rate. This is week FIVE of my stall and I am sincerely frustrated and disappointed. I have done everything I know to do to kickstart my weightloss again since I quit smoking and I haven't lost one single lb. I haven't gained either and yes I know that's a Good Thing(tm) - But working hard on the track to walk 5-6 miles each day and 3 miles on my bike each morning. Watching my calories/intake carefully to stay under 1600 calories a day. You would think that I would at least lose a single friggin POUND! ^%#@@!!#@ - ARGH. I'm now considering maybe a 2-3 day Fast. Amy This is exactly the same recommendation I used to get when I was a WW member, eating at the low range of my points and in a weight loss stall. Upping the points (calories) usually resulted in a pound or two loss. I agree that this might work better than the fast. You could up the calories to 2100 for a couple of days and still stay within the 10 x current weight range often recommended by the group for weight loss. I know how frustrating it can be when the weight just refuses to let go! Have you tried drinking extra water, changing the type of exercise for a few days, cut back on carbs? You're doing great on the not smoking - WTG! I know you'll find that magic combination that will put you back on the weight loss road. Hopefully it will be one BIG whoosh when it starts again !! Any thoughts on that? Susan 260/219/160 Before you "fast".. which will only lose you some water weight, and you'll regain that when you eat, not to mention it could trigger a binge. Why not try cutting calories down to 1200 for a few days and see if that helps. Also, somehting that has worked for me in the past, is taking a couple days off from exercise. Its been a long time since I told my "drunken woman walking down stairs" analogy. A few yrs ago I was at a company holiday party. I was in a full length dress, and had 4" heels on and the dress still was to the floor (hey, its that "short people problem"). The main room was a veranda and all the people were gathered on the veranda floor. It was rather crowded. THe bar was up a flight of 6 stairs (stone tile - so a bit uneven). I was in the midst of my 2nd drink when they made the final bar call. BF was in the midst of a conversation, so I offered to go get 2 last drinks. As I waited in line to go up the stairs to the bar, I finished my drink. I then got 2 drinks, turned around to head back down the stairs to join the party. Mind you, I'm on the top of the stairs overlooking a sea of my coworkers and spouses. I had a drink in each hand, and no way to lift up the length of my dress to help me down the stairs. SUddenly, the 2 drinks I had previously hit me and the slight buzz of the alcohol set in. So, in an effort to gracefully make it down the stairs, I took one step down, brought my other foot onto that step, wobbled, steadied myself, then took a breath before attempting the next step, step, step, wobble, steady, breath. I did this down all 6 steps to the bottom. And this is how I've always had weight loss work for me. I go down a few lbs, then wobble, then steady then breath, before the weight loss drops again. I've never lost weight in a steady flow/stream. I've always dropped quick, then wobble, then stedy out for a while before dropping again. Just like the drunk woman trying to walk down a flight of stairs. :-) |

I too have found it effective to eat up to or over the calories I burn in a day on occasion. I'd say once a week, I try to go over... I also drop calories below what I usually eat on at least one day a week. At any rate, your body will eventually lose again, so don't give up! Me, I've spending time right around 240. One day, 240.5... another, 238.5, today, 239.5... it's driving me nuts. I know part of it is the missed walks while my cut heel heals, but it is maddening just the same. I probably need to do better with my water drinking, because I do think it is a water problem. I may be retaining water, since I'm doing a fair amount of physical work getting things ready to paint around here. Cynthia 262/239.5/200 first goal |

Any thoughts on that? Don't fast. Not good. My thoughts? Are you absolutely certain that you are eating the number of calories you think you are? Being extra diligent at entering all the food that goes into your mouth? If so, and you have been eating at this 1600 calorie level for a long period of time, I'd suggest a refeed as already mentioned. The reason why is that the body is an incredible adapter. If you eat at the same low level day in and day out for weeks at a time, the body will adjust metabolism levels accordingly. However, if you "zig zag" or at least do a refeed once every week or two, it keeps the body guessing. Go out to dinner and eat something you haven't eaten in awhile - eat 500-1000 calories over what you are normally eating, but then go back to 1600 again the next day. You may be surprised. SOme of my biggest "whooshes" have come on the heels of a day of overindulgence... det I'm going to note here, the zig zag is good, but in the interest of morale... it may be best to avoid highly salty foods on the refeed day... or at least not weigh immediately after the refeed day. I'll occasionally eat something that is completely off my WOE on a refeed, other refeeds, I just eat more of the same good stuff I generally eat. Otherwise, it's true... I've often had a good whoosh within a few days of a refeed. Also, if you zig-zag on a regular or planned basis, it's good to have the higher eating days on the higher exercise days. Hang in there Susan. You're doing an amazing amount of exercise, and your body
is probably still trying to get used to not smoking. Have you been doing any measurements? waist size, etc? Are your clothes getting looser? Maybe you're gaining some muscle? Friday... again.
No. I'm not eating too much. I am logging everything as I faithfully
have been since June 15th. Same typical fare I have been eating since June.. oatmeal.. chicken/beef..lots and lots of leafy greens and fruit. 0 refined sugar. 0 bread/potatoes. I attempted to have a "healthy choice" frozen entree lastnight for the first time and it was disgusting. Even my dog was hesitant when he got the 3/4 of it I didn't eat. So having some ready made entree's is out if they are those kind lol. I know this is a long shot, but it has just occurred to me that alot of LC dieters restrict sweeteners such as nutrasweet, equal etc because it hinders their losses. I have been chowing on at least a pack of "sugarless" gum(usually shared with my kids) each day since I quit smoking. Maybe I am having too much? Grasping I know. Do a refeed - it'll be good for morale and just may give you the whoosh you're looking for. And, like someone else mentioned, are you taking measurements? If you've been exercising heavy for a long while, you might just want to take a week off of exercise and just do some brisk walking. Taking breaks from woe and exercise are really a GOOD thing... det |
