Day 35 and still 19 pounds gone
265/246/200
Still 19 pounds gone as of this morning. (That is, no lower weight.) I just got back from three and a half hours of snowshoeing and this time the journey was great! I probably had too many calories yesterday and today (3300 yesterday and 1500 calories by 1p.m. -- mostly sugar) but my legs felt great today. Not at all like two weeks ago when I was utterly exhausted, extremely dizzy, etc., after about 3 hours of snowshoeing. So next time I go snowshoeing or hiking, I'm definitely going to make sure I have enough calories. So I will have to cut down calories from now on and in the week ahead to make up for yesterday and today. Very interesting experience for me, the difference between today and two weeks ago. I hope everyone has a great day today and a great week tomorrow! I hope we can all be "good enough for long enough" to improve our health! Yours, Caleb |

You should use a computer program like Fitday to count the calories.
Food portions should be weighed. "Caleb" wrote in message ups.com... 265/246/200 Still 19 pounds gone as of this morning. (That is, no lower weight.) As of tomorrow, my calories are going to be much lower and more defineable. Today I had a hard slog with snowshoeing and I went off my caloric regimen. Tomorrow I'm back on it and will have much fewer calories. I limit my food choices and so am fairly aware of the calories in what I eat and dirnk. Also, I usually keep track of my calories. Counting calories is the way to go for me. Fibers, a lot of water, vegetables and fruits also help me reach my goals. Mike -- I'm sorry. I thought I answered your question once but when I checked, I wasn't sure it was posted. My fault. I think I'm averaging about 1200 to 1500 calories a day. Not too bad for me. I agree about a lot of water, veggies, and fruit -- such as apples -- are good. I usually skip lunch without much hassle. As I have noted before, Mark Mattson, a neuroscientist with the Naitonal Institute on Aging -- said that he has not regularly eaten breakfast in 20 years. Actually, this makes interesting reading if you have never encountered his work: ************************************************** ******** Update: Mark Mattson, the NIH National Institute of Aging scientist who conducted the study, says skipping meals is probably beneficial. Nevertheless, Mattson said, "I would be very confident in saying that healthy adults don't need three full meals a day and would be better off skipping one or two. When you go without food, there are benefits. Your cells become more efficient. I haven't eaten breakfast for 20 years." Mattson said a study is being planned to test the effect of fasting on people. The plan is to compare the health of a group of people fed the normal three meals a day with a similar group, eating the same diet and amount of food, but consuming it within four hours and then fasting for 20 hours before eating again. ************************************************** *** The above is from: http://www.futurepundit.com/archives/001201.html but it made fairly big waves in health circles, I think. Turns out that a lot of what people think about proper eating habits is probably not true. Skipping meals may allow people to be more resistant to Alzheimers, concussions, etc. Certainly it's not the dreadful tragedy that so many of us think that it is. Good for you and your progress!!! Keep it up!!! Yours, Caleb |
