Default Day 24 and 14 pounds gone

265/251/200 14 pounds gone in 24 days

I made a bet with a relative at about losing weight at the start of
this year and I have been fairly good in following my diet and exercise
program since then. One day I had about 3000 calories, but most of the
days about 1000 to 1200. Both of us want to be 20 pounds lighter by
mid-May and I'm fairly close to that now.

Lately I've been rather motivated by the following chart, basing my
weight loss now on a base rate of 240 pounds (11 pounds lower than I am
now), and multiplying the pounds by 13 to account for being male. If I
were female, I'd multiply my pounds by 11 to get my carrying weight.

Weight Loss in a 30-Day Month, 100 Days
Based on 240 pounds, not including exercise.

Day's Pounds Lost 30 Day 100 Day
Calories Today Lost Equiv Lost Equiv
0 0.9 26.74 89.14

500 0.7 22.46 74.86
600 0.7 21.60 72.00
700 0.7 20.74 69.14
800 0.7 19.89 66.29
900 0.6 19.03 63.43
1000 0.6 18.17 60.57
1100 0.6 17.31 57.71
1200 0.5 16.46 54.86

1300 0.5 15.60 52.00
1400 0.5 14.74 49.14
1500 0.5 13.89 46.29

1600 0.4 13.03 43.43
1700 0.4 12.17 40.57
1800 0.4 11.31 37.71
1900 0.3 10.46 34.86
2000 0.3 9.60 32.00

3000 0.0 1.03 3.43

What the above chart says to me is that at the end of the day, if I
take in 1200 calories at this point in my weight loss, I will lose
(before exercise is factored in) .5 pounds a day, 16.46 pounds in a 30
day month, and about 55 pounds over a 100 day period. Taking in 1000
calories will result in a loss trend for me over 100 days of 61 pounds
or so -- but I probably will lose less because my weight will have
shifted down and it will be harder to lose the remaining weight.

Tonight I walked up to the top of a little hill -- a 600 feet gain. I
went snowshoeing on Sunday but found out first hand the one of the
problems of a restricted calorie diet on that activity. I had a 1000
calories the day before, had 400 calories that morning, forgot my
lunch, and I hit "the wall" Sunday afternoon, with dizziness, impaired
vision, absolutely no strength. This lasted about half an hour. So my
friend gave me a Cliff Bar (250 calories) and wihin ten minutes I was
moving quickly down the trail again. Very, very impressive effects,
both hitting the wall and in recovering from it. (I've done about ten
marathons but absolutely never felt as drained as I did this weekend.
Recovery was almost immediate with no aftereffects I can see.)

For meals, I'm usually having a small breakfast, skipping lunch, and
I'm having a limited dinner. Tonight had rice and cream of mushroom
soup, along with some Trader Joe's turkey cassarole. Maybe 700 calories
for dinner. Actually, I don't think I had breakfast this morning, but I
had about 2000 calories yesterday, so across the two days, pretty good.

Anyway, I hope everyone reaches their goals and maintains the eating
behaviors they want to maintain!

Yours,

Caleb

Day 24 of 100 days.
