It seems to me, that theatres and airlines[that is what this

Or they could cash in even more and charge double for ech oversize

person.

There is one airline that is doing this currently.

I know of several fat couples who routinely purchase a block of 3
tickets so that they can "own" one seat between them for their comfort
and the comfort of those around them.

Yet if they were to present themselves at the gate they might be
required to purchase 2 seats each even though they thought ahead and
made arrangements ahead of time.

Why should they be charged for two seats each when they are already
paying for all the space they need?

And this doesn't even address the absurdity of 17 inch seats on most
major carriers. Even a not fat person isn't going to be very
comfortable in a seat that narrow!

I used to travel extensively when i was less fat, and did not find the seats
all that bad width wise. leg room wise they were pretty awful. i can only
imagine how a taller person would feel after a few hours crunched up like a
pretzel.

Umm, EVERY airline does this currently. What you mean to say is that one
airline recently received a lot of publicity for announcing that they were
receiving so many complaints and so much abuse that they would start
enforcing the existing policy.

Yes the one company I assume you are talking about [Southwest] is the
one that publicized the policy.

Not every airline charges fat people for two seats according to this
source:
http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles...le.asp?ID=1243

"Southwest Airlines found itself at the center of controversy this
week. It reportedly announced that, starting June 26, passengers its
agents subjectively regard as too big or fat to fit "comfortably" in
one seat will be required to pay for two seats. Southwest now says
that it has had this seldom-enforced policy since 1980, and that
American, Continental, Northwest, US Airways, and several other
airlines have similar policies. (Delta and United Airlines reportedly
do not.)"
