Can Atkins/Low Carb cause neck pains?
Have you also start browsing the web a lot (for info on low carb) after you have
started low carb? It might be just bad sitting posture. I suggest that you do more stretching... James wrote: Hi all, Recently I have been having bad neck pains and low lying headaches. The best way to describe them is its as if there was a chord stretched from the lower part of my skull down to my upper back, and it hurts along the whole line. There is also a headache associated with the bottom part of the back of my head. I noticed these began last summer, coincidentally around the same time I tried atkins for the first time. They lasted throughout all of the fall and left me around december, also around the time I stopped the atkins lifestyle. At the time I never associated the two. Now though, I started atkins for about a week and I am quickly remembering the pain that I had last fall. I am wondering if anyone has any idea if the two could be related, or is it just some strange coincidence? Is it possible that there is a certain supplement that I am lacking, or something I'm ingesting that could be causing this kind of problem? Has anyone read anything like this before, or know where I could find information on this? Thank you in advance, James |

I suggest you determine the root cause of the problem before
potentially exasperating the situation with stretching. On Fri, 21 May 2004 18:15:55 +0100, Ada Ma wrote: It might be just bad sitting posture. I suggest that you do more stretching... This is like a hangover without alcohol!!!! Forgot to explain it a little, I don't think I'll do a perfect job but I've read it somewhere and I'll try. Hangovers are caused by people being dehydrated after all the drinking they have done the night before. When people are dehydrated, the brain gets dehydrated and the thin membrane that sits between your brain and your skull gets too far away from the skull than it's optimal, which is what causes you a headache when you have hangovers or when you're dehydrated... |

Pretty good try. It is the reason any experienced alcoholic knows to drink a glass or two of water before going to bed. Barb |

caffeine withdrawal? Thanks for the reply. I don't think it would be caffeine as I have been off of caffeine for several years already. In addition the effects lasted months last time around. The only real switch I have made is from caffeine free diet sodas (namely diet rite) to almost entirely water. Thanks again, James |

I had a lot of joint pain my first time around, including neck and back pain. Looking back now I think it had a lot to do with the fact that I always forgot to take vitamins, and didn't integrate much fresh produce into my diet. I was very active at work, but didn't do any real exercise. While I didn't have the head ache you mentioned, I thought it sounded similar. -Sofia 173/159.2/130 - 5'7 "curt" wrote in message ... I am not sure of the answer of your question, but will tell you I have had some neck into back discomfort as well. I attributed it to loss of muscle in that area, because I was running and not lifting. I started lifting and working on that area and it seemed to have helped. I also play lots of volleyball and used to play tennis for many years, which is lots of overhead motions. I figured this attributed to the discomfort. Not sure if you situation could be similar, but thought I would mention my experience. Curt -- Started low carb May '03 this time. 211/182/180 . . 6'2" 15.78% BF? Thank you in advance, James Thanks for the reply, The truth is (believe it or not) I actually consume alot more produce and vitamins on the atkins diet. My normal lifestyle consists of hamburgers, french fries, pizza, etc, etc. In addition I always take a multi-vitamin on atkins. Thats why I was wondering if possibly my problem was not caused by atkins, but possibly some other nutritient that my body is allergic or unucustommed to (but I know relatively nothing about such things, so I could be totally off). Thanks again for the reply, James |
