Induction, day 3: normal to feel spacy/weird?
Hi folks,
After a couple of minor mistakes, I was experiencing some cravings and also had gained back a little weight (probably water). (That's when I was whining about missing Japanese noodles...) I scaled back my carb intake to 25g-under. After about a day and a half, the water was gone and my pants were fitting real loose again. I've since bought the Atkins book and started Induction - I'm on day 3 - the cravings are totally gone. However today I have been feeling spacy and weird all day - barely any appetite, feeling foggy/unfocused and not terribly smart. A little headachy all day. That could probably be from not eating enough? I haven't eaten much today. I know I am supposed to eat more on Atkins, but food just sounds... yucky. When I go down this low in carbs I lose MOST of my appetite, not just enough to stay "moderate". Is this normal? When I first started LC, I scaled back "gradually" because of the awful blood sugar crashes I had from doing a "cold turkey" Induction-level start. Thanks, A. Wilson |

Wilson Well, everyone is different, and I've certainly had a few of those "spacey" days. I do try to eat at least three meals a day, the main three being at about the same time each day, whether I really want it or not. My experience has been that if I put off a meal for awhile, the hunger pangs come up pretty suddenly. |

Induction, day 3: normal to feel spacy/weird?
I am entering my third week of induction, had some light headedness (thats
what your describing) but all that has passed now, I just eat as and when, check I am doing "purple" sticks once a day, and all is progressing nicely. The idea of Atkins....(as I understand it) is to EAT, when hungry, this has helped me stick on the straight and narrow. You should not allow yourself to feel hungry, I take a HUGE back of low carb snacks to work with me, and usually bring some back. Tinned fish, cheese/ham chopped in a bowl to snack on. This keeps (I find) 1: The Cravings down 2: Hunger at bay. I got stuck with a "job" away from my desk Friday, and could not get back to my food supply for a couple of hours. I REALLY knew I needed food, and had to make an excuse to get back to take on some fuel ! The rewards so far ? 12lbs lost in 2 weeks. I seem nowadays to have the promised "acetone" taste in my mouth, consoles me knowing the ketosis is working. Time is passing by nicely, another 2 weeks I am sure the weight loss will start to show. Its always good when the first person says....."Have you lost weight" Regards Gary -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Always listen to experts. They'll tell you what can't be done, and why. Then do it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Jim Bard" wrote in message ... "wilson" wrote in message om... Oh yes, but don't worry. Drink lots of water (or crystal lite in my case)
and it will pass in the next couple of days. "wilson" wrote in message om... Don't worry about it: you were never that smart in the first place.

Induction, day 3: normal to feel spacy/weird?
The first 4 or 5 days you feel that way. I think it's sugar withdrawal
and caffeine withdrawal if you're not drinking any caffeine. I had the most horrible headache the first 3 days. I hardly ever have headaches but I'm sure it was the sugar because I didn't give up caffeine. I started feeling good by about 5 days. |

It took me 3 weeks before my body started to adjust. The fatigue was the worst of it for me. You will get over it! Need some low-carb recipes? Vist http://www.triadnc.net/recipes/ |

Induction, day 3: normal to feel spacy/weird?
I went cold turkey on caffeine soda drinks, and ridding of all the junk food
from my diet. Yes, I felt really crappy for a few days. Actually a few weeks. Then my body adjusted to the new WOE. Just stick with it, the spacey weird feeling will lift soon. |
