Default Towards a Definition of FFID

************
Ig says:

I was what they call an FFID -- a fat **** in denial.

I thought I was "big boned", "I could still run 25 minutes"
(forgetting how my knees hurt), that "I was getting old" (bull**** as
I now know, I was just fat), that many people are fatter than me
(fewer and fewer as pounds piled on), that my metabolism was not
working (of course it was not working, I ate so much crap), that my
spouse was slightly overweight also (irrelevant), that I was "strong
enough for my weight" (could barely do one chinup), that "I was a
nighttime eater" (was one until I stopped being one), that my
hypertension was "hereditary" (and yet it stopped once I lost 20 or so
lbs), etc etc etc.

I started feeling way better 2 weeks into fat loss. I believe due to
not eating **** foods any more and exercising my body.

Fat **** in Denial. Someone who claims they can't lose weight because
of [insert whine of your choice]. You can lose weight. You've just
got
to do what it takes. And it takes eating less and exercising more.

*****************
Dally says:

If I say, "why
don't you go for a run?" and you say, "That won't work for me
because...
" I totally agree that you are not a FFID....

I'm specifically speaking about any RESPONSE to the statement "eat less
and exercise more" where "That won't work for me" is the starting
sentence.

Believe me, it's a sure-fire signal that I'm about to get trapped in a
life-sucking moment with a FFID. I flee when I hear this.

Fat Person: "How did you lose your weight? I wish I could do that."
Dally: "You can! You can do what I did. I ate less and exercised
more."
Newly Revealed FFID: "That won't work for me because..."
Dally: "Oops, pardon me, I think I hear my mommy calling me! Gotta
run."

Dally says:

That's the hallmark of a fat **** in denial. He's fat, he's tried, oh
well, nothing works, it must be his lot in life to be fat. Nothing he
can do will change it.

That's denial.

Default Towards a Definition of FFID

Good morning. FFID: It's a misnomer as they all *know* they're fat,
even if they won't admit it. It's also not a binary state, rather a
sliding scale, with Fat Happeners being the worst and most of us
occasionally dipping into the lower edges of FFID every now and then.
Any and every justification of fat, other than calorific intake vs
calorific expenditure, in all but a few exceptional cases, is FFID.
Sure, I'm a bit FFID sometimes. Every now and then I convince myself
that I have done enough exercise when I really know I haven't, or that
"normals" can handle that scone with at least as much butter so I can
too, but if I put on weight it's because I'm a FF. If I put on weight
and don't intend to, I'm a FFID.

That said, I'm currently almost completely without exercise. I'm
walking for maybe 10-15 hours per week but that's really nothing,
particularly as my sugar intake has rocketed recently. However, I did
budget for this and once I can get something approaching a good night's
sleep (ie 6+ hours with more than 2 hours uninterrupted), I'm sure I'll
get back on the wagon. I just hope I'm vaguely maintaining my weight
until then (clothes are seeming very slightly looser if anything, touch
wood).

If it makes you feel better or lose weight to call yourself names, fine.
But that doesn't make it "okay," or productive, or helpful, or even
informative, to call *other* people names IMNSHO. That's just childish.
