Default Need help and guidance to lose weight..newbie here!!!

Hi All,

I know few facts and need some help to lose weight. I know everyone wants to
but its not that easy. If someone who has lost weight could shed some light
how they went abt it and give some tips..i have not done excericses for quite
sometime and i need to start that. Any help would be appreciated and any
links where i can educate myself. I am South Asian (from india where rice is
staple food).

Thank you,
Shotman

Welcome to the group. Here are a couple sites often recommended.
Krista's site is geared toward women but has good information on diet
and exercise for everyone.

http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/index.php

www.fitday.com will allow you to journal your food intake and also has
some information on diet and exercise.

Just keep posting and asking questions. There are many in the group
who have been exactly where you are at the moment and have been
successful in losing weight. It often helps to change things slowly
instead of trying to change everything at once. Weight loss can be
difficult but it's not impossible

Welcome, Shotman. Beverly has already recommended a couple of good
online resources where you can learn a lot. Another one I like is
www.exrx.net. Its focus is more on exercise, but there's also a good
diet and nutrition section.

Exercise is important, as you note -- both cardio and weight training.
Also, you will want to start reading these sites or other diet
resources to learn about good food choices. In general, you want to
focus on lean proteins (less fatty meats and fish, legumes,
reduced-fat dairy products), fruits and vegetables, and whole grain
products. White rice isn't on the list of best choices :-). Brown
rice is much better, but I don't know if it's common in the Indian
diet -- don't think I've ever been served it in Indian restaurants.
You'll want to try to cut back on dishes that have a lot of fat added
in cooking, as well as sugary dishes and sweets.

If you stick around here you'll get lots of good hints from people on
the list. Many of us have been successful in weight loss -- though
you're right, it's not that easy. You can do it. Just start making
small improvements and then gradually changing a little more as you go
forward.
