I can identify! I have gone from a 26/28 to an 18/20 in the past 3
months... I have been shopping at Walmart... They sell good jeans there and
1/2 decent clothes. I generally like to buy nicer clothes, but not during
transition.

I could have written that. In fact, I did! I found a few things at the
Salvation Army store, a few more things at Wal-Mart and had a good suit
altered by a tailor. Then I found a friend who had some fat clothes she
could loan me and I've been wearing her size 16 stuff. I think I might
land at a size 14 but I'm just not sure.

I have no clothes that fit me properly. Mark and I went out for dinner
lastnight and it took me almost 2 hours to put together an outfit that
felt and looked ok on me. Everything I own just hangs on me. I have got
to go shopping soon and I am dreading spending the money on clothes I
won't be wearing next month as I keep losing. Thoughts on buying
inexpensive but decent clothes? I work at home so It is really hard for
me to justify buying alot of dress clothes for "work" but I need a few
outfits for meetings and the holidays. Maybe I can find something's at a
thrift or second hand store?

Thrift and second hand stores are excellent places to shop when you're
still in the process of losing weight. We have several places in our area.
I've used them when I needed something very dressy for a special event.
I've bought some fantastic designer outfits for a fraction of the cost.
I'm sure I wouldn't run into the original owner as we probably don't
frequent the same formal affairsg

Thrift, second hand and consignment shops. They are always good for
finding clothes that are good quality and less expensive than new.

Go for elastic waisted stuff that will shrink a bit with you and
sometimes you can get by for 2 to 3 sizes before you are swimming in
it again.

Go for classic and basic looks - a black skirt and black dress pants
(or navy, or brown) that you can mix and match w/ different
blouses/sweaters to change the look. A couple key pieces can bring
you a long way in versitility.

I do a lot of my shopping at thrift stores--Goodwill, Salvation Army,
Open Door Mission, etc. I am usually dropping off a bag of what doesn't
fit, and purchasing a bag of stuff that does fit. Our local thrift
shop--the Mission--has a bag sale every Saturday. $8 for whatever you
can stuff in a paper grocery bag.

I can usually get name brands--last week I picked up Gap jeans and an
Ambercrombie sweater.

Good luck, Susan, and just rejoice that your clothes are too big, rather
than the other way around...

IMO, there is no reason to wait to hit goal weight before you buy yourself a
couple of nice outfits. When I hit my top weight, I was so disgusted with
myself, I refused to buy anything nice at that size, becuase I was
determined NOT to stay there. I shopped at K-Mart and other such discount
stores. As I lost weight, my clothes were not at all flattering, and really
hid the efforts of my hard work. When I finally went out and bought some
really nice more expensive clothes, I was amazed at how good I looked! I
really had no idea. It felt good. Now I still shop at kmart, but I feel
*worth* the extra money it costs to have some really nice clothes too.

It's worthwhile getting a few basics at an intermediate weight (jeans,t's or
maybe a coupla sweaters, khakhi pants, basic skirt) because it's not until you
do so that others notice the weight loss. Then you get a lot of positive
feedback.

Really, even without the outside recognition, just to get into a few new things
that you couldn't have considered a year ago is huge positive reinforcement.

Just a thought, in your signature line there is a amount $ saved
through not smoking, why not take some of that and by one or two
outfits which you can combine. Secondhand shops are a great way of
buying clothes without spending a lot of money.

Or for me, Colin who's living in shorts and a t-shirt.

My old jeans & trousers no longer fit me and I can't see the point
in buying new ones until my waist size has stabilised.

Shorts are much more forgiving anyway, they just tend to look a
bit baggy around the thighs
