Default Need Advice

Hello,

Let me start by describing a few of the symptoms. This may sound like an
exaggeration or some kind of troll, but I assure you it is not. I am
actually trying to find a reason to continue this diet. I am desperate.

I have been on Induction since Monday 3/8/04. The first two days were OK.
Then, I started to be sweaty and cold at the same time. My hands were
shaking. I was dizzy. My heart was racing. A friend of mine and my mother
both told me I was slurring my speech. I couldn't concentrate long enough to
find a program in the TV Guide. A trip from the couch to the bathroom and
back left me out of breath and my leg muscles burning. Staying awake at work
has been a real challenge. So, feeling like a complete failure yet again, I
made a trip down the road to Taco Bell and ordered one of their Chicken
Grilled Stuffed Burritos and a large Pepsi. If I had been pulled over I
probably would have been arrested for DUI. About half an hour after eating
it I started to get my brain back and my heart stopped racing. I went to bed
last night feeling like a failure, but not like I had the flu.

Determined to get back up on the horse immediately, this morning for
breakfast I had about half of a hard boiled egg (it's all I could eat, the
smell of it started to make me sick). For lunch I had a small salad. The
problem is that I can already feel the knot in my stomach returning and my
head growing cloudy. I simply can't repeat last week.

I have lost 14.6 pounds since Monday. Even after the trip to Taco Bell, I
weighed a pound less this morning than I did yesterday morning. So I
obviously can't say the diet doesn't work. I am 5'10" and weighed 273.4
pounds when I started, so I desperately need to lose weight. The past week
has really scared me, though. I can't ever remember feeling that bad.

I use FitDay and according to it my net carbs per day has averaged 13 grams
and total carbs have averaged 18. I have followed Atkins' book to the
letter. What am I doing wrong? How do I do this and not feel like I am at
death's door for the next 9 months?

Hi, James. The first thing I would check would be blood sugar. Does
anyone around you have a meter you could use? If not, Walmart has a
Relion brand that is fairly cheep. Anyway, if you can check your blood
sugar when you are feeling woosie, you might find that it is running
low. If it's normal, check it after meals and see if it is high.
Sometimes after having high blood sugars for a long time, getting to
normal levels feels like a low. It did for me, anyway.

Good luck. I hope you figure it out. That's no way to feel.

With the name James *Adkins* it is hard to take you seriously.

If you are a troll, I would say you need better crack....

If real, I suspect your calories are too low. Do you have lots of nice fat
in your diet? How many calories does FitDay say you are having per day?

I had the same problem and I still have it every once in a while. Today is
the last day of the second week for me and I weigh in again Monday morning.
Last monday when I got on the scales, I had lost 12.3 pounds and 2 1/2
inches off my body, it totally turned me out! I got blood work done just to
make sure everything was OK and everything is fine, in fact my cholesterol
levels are excellent at 174 and my dr. couldn't be more happy for me. He
told me the dizzy spells, feeling like your going to pass out etc, usually
means your not eating enough greens and possibly protein. Also, some people
on Atkins need to eat more then 3 meals a day to keep themselves from
feeling like this, for instance for breakfast if you have eggs and bacon,
eat the eggs first, then a few hours later eat your bacon. Start out with
breakfast first and then eat lunch and dinner as u usually do and see if
that brakes the cycle, if not, then the next day, split breakfast up into 2
parts, and lunch in 2 parts, etc... The breakfast split seemed to work for
me perfectly. My friend who did Atkins last year only lost 4 pounds the
first week, so when I weighed in last Monday and dropped 12.3 pounds I
couldn't believe it, I blew him out of the water. Now I read your thingie
and you beat me by like 2 pounds, it's amazing, isn't it? What you lost
this week should only push you to continue this, come the end of the summer,
you should be about ready to be hired of A&F! Seriously, that is exactly
how my friend looks now, it took him 6 months to lose exactly what you and I
STARTED with when we started the diet, although I am 6'1" and you are only
5'10". If anyone on here tells you not to do induction for longer then 2
weeks, put them on your kill file list and ignore them, because they are
telling lies and they are just out to ruin everyone elses self esteem. A
good one to put on your kill file list NOW is "JC Der Koenig" As you can
tell by his/her response, 'it's' nothing short of a troll! Then I remember
some idiot posting about how I was excited when I took my ketose test
because it was all dark purple, trying to make me believe that had nothing
to do with fat burning, yet if anyone can read, it says right on the net
what they are used for with Atkins and hey, look at my results...yet I
wasn't in fat burning...LMAO, thats another one to block as well!

Good luck and keep going, don't stop!

My blood sugar has never been high. My blood pressure has, though. I have
access to a tester ( my dad is diabetic), but I haven't tested it while on
the diet. I will start, though. That could be it. If it is, how do I raise
it without eating something sweet?

My fat was in the triple digits during induction. My ratios were around 65-
70 percent fat, 25-30 percent protein and the rest were allowed carbs. I
got into ketosis easily.

IMO, 1198 cals is far too low for you. You can easily double that and still
lose weight. You'd most likely feel better as well.

Average of 1198 per day. I have eaten steak, chicken, eggs, bacon, ham,
broccoli, spinich, and the occasional small salad. Just not alot of it. My
appetite is gone.

Fat averages 70 grams a day. Don't know if that is high or low.

This diet is amazing. I never expected to lose this much weight this fast. I
know it works better for some than for others, but, given my past history, I
expected to be more like your friend. If I felt good, I'd be yelling from
the rooftops. It certianly makes me want to figure out what's going on so I
can stick with it.

I'll try the split meals. Good idea.

Two weeks into it, and you're calling someone who told you a fact an
idiot? It could be dietary fat making the stick dark purple, as well as
ketosis. The thing is, some people complain that they're not losing even
though the sticks are purple and can't figure out why. The person that
you're calling an idiot was just pointing that out to you, and no, it
wasn't me. BTW, I lost 35 pounds and never once turned a stick pink. :-)
